Looking to hit the slopes tomorrow until early January, are there any resorts worth going to near upstate NY? I don't mind travelling a bit (ie VT, Maine, etc), but not if it's just to catch a barely open resort with artificial snow...

Except for a little around the TugHill Plateau(I heard somewhere(not positive)), out West is where the snow is right now.

Snow Ridge got two feet Saturday, opened Sunday, closed Monday. It is supposed to be 65° on Christmas Eve. If one more person says how "nice" the weather has been, I'm going to snap. This is beginning to remind me of the 2010-2011 season, the year it didn't snow. This is supposed to be my happy time, everyone else is supposed to be miserable, damn it. I realize Winter has just begun, but I've yet had the need to even defrost the windshield of my car.

My home hill, Greek Peak, is opening today, one trail, high of 51°, 90℅ chance of rain, yay!

Whiteface might be the best bet. Where exactly are you? Upstate NY is a pretty big area!

Depending on who you ask.;) When I'm skiing out of state and people ask where I'm from, I always say upstate NY. If I just say NY, they assume I mean NYC, usually followed by, "You don't sound like you're from NY."

Whiteface is a good call, it wasn't terrible on 12/13, it's far North, and has the elevation to take advantage of any cold weather that may be on the horizon. Keep an eye on the weather, another lake snow event will open Snow Ridge back up. Can't imagine a more fun 500 ft hill when they get the goods.

Upstate is Yonkers to most people. That is why I refer to where I am from as "The North Country" aka God's Country. And I would you are Southern Tier but most go huh!

to avoid the nyc/ny confusion, i would reference my nearest major population center. "i am from near albany/binghamton/syracuse/plattsburg/etc"

poor OP hasn't been paying attention to the very obvious weather.

I tell them I'm from Binghamton / Triple Cities, it's where IBM started, not sure that's a good, or bad, thing. Open the pod bay door HAL. It's why Arthur C Clark named the computer in 2001 HAL, one letter removed from IBM.

So if we were to build an itinerary starting tomorrow where would you guys go? We can drive as far north as Quebec, in any direction, to catch some slopes. Colorado/Utah is too far unfortunately.

We're in Binghamton

None of these will meet your requirement of being more than just barely open with more than just artificial snow.

So what are most people in the Northeast doing? Assuming they can't make it out west.

Unfortunately, this season blows... so far. It hasn't been a total wash though. Skied some nice Spring conditions at Jiminy and Whiteface. I was quite impressed with the bumps on Skyelark last time I skied K. They must blow a shitload of snow for bumps that nice to form. It was a pleasant surprise, I had expected a groomer only day. They kicked my fat, old, ass, Skye is pretty friggin long. Snow Ridge delivered, 20" of heavy powder is about as good as it gets this year. It felt weird considering the abnormally high temperatures since the end of Summer. 70° on Christmas Eve? Could it get any worse for all the resorts? I think not. A ski resort owner's nightmare scenario is unfolding.

I really wanted to go riding this season but seems like pretty much the entire East is dry. Should I not even go anywhere?
