Date(s) Skied: 1/30
Resort or Ski Area: Whiteface
Conditions: powder, packed powder and some areas of hardpack
Trip Report:
I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions at Whiteface. I skied Gore the preceding day, and it was largely tracked out by the afternoon. Considering this was two days after the storm I expected to find mostly chopped up powder and groomers. For the most part, this was the case; however, I also found some nice untracked snow.
Highlights included second tracks down Empire (which was reserved). Early in the day, I had some untracked lines in Cloudsplitter and High Country glades. By far the best runs I had were on Upper Cloudspin. There was tons of untracked powder in there, even up until closing. Have at it tomorrow.
I got to ski Lookout Below for the first time. Gnarly trail. Easily the most difficult on the hill. Wasn't a fan of the funky whales, especially on the headwall. Thankfully, there was some soft snow along the edges early in day. Late afternoon... not so much. This will be a great bump run in the spring.
It snowed lightly throughout the day. At about 3:30 a heavy snow squall moved into the area. Should help to refresh the slopes for tomorrow.
