1/4 Friday....Arrived at the mountain at 8:00 a.m. to find packed powder conditions on Little Whiteface. First warm-up run down Excelsior over to the Summit Chair. Both Skyward and Upper Cloudspin were closed and the conditions were " Variable" on Parons, which meant broken-up crust, ice, and packed powder. They closed the Summit later in the day. Returned to the Gondola and found much better conditions on the Mountain Run, Wilderness, and MacKensie. Great bumps on Upper and Lower Mac!! Packed powder/powder all over. The lower portion of the mountain was beginning to get skied off as we returned to the Gondola. After lunch we hit Empire and the Glades. Good snow cover in both Glades but Empire had some thin spots. Ran into a bit of trouble when the gondola broke down at 3:00 p.m. so we called it a day. .....1/5 Saturday....Arrived at 8:00 a.m. again and headed up to the Summit. They were continuing to blow snow on Skyward and had apparently done so through the night. 4-5 inches of loose snow, top to bottom on Skyward. The top of Upper Cloudspin was closed and Parons was still icy but better than Friday's conditions. We spent the morning on Skyward, occasionally ducking over to Cloudspin through the cutoffs. Conditions were ungroomed windblown below the closed Upper portion down to Niagra, which made for some interesting skiing. Skyward was in the best condition I've seen it. At 1:00 p.m. we headed over to Boule's Bistro for some lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon on the Mountain Run (icy on top, packed powder/powder the rest of the way down) Wilderness(they were making snow) and MacKensie( sweet, soft, bumps) alternating between the three of them. The condition of Skyward, Mountain Run ( my favorite Whiteface run) and Mac made Saturday one of the best days I've had at Whiteface. Sorry, no pics.
