Ski Magazine Rankings Announced
WILMINGTON, N.Y. --- For the 19th consecutive year, Whiteface/Lake Placid, N.Y. has been selected as the top destination for Off Hill activities by readers of SKI Magazine. The 22nd annual survey also tabbed Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., as the fourth top ski resort in the eastern United States. The rankings were announced in the magazine's October special issue.
"It's exciting that we continue to be number-one in the off hill category, this is a testament to all of the hard work from the staff at the mountain, as well as to the entire community who continue to make Whiteface/Lake Placid a special ski destination," said New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) chairman Patrick Barrett. "It's equally as exciting that we've maintained our status as one of the top ski resorts in the east."
Whiteface , Wilmington and Lake Placid also received high marks from the magazine's readers for its scenery (#2), resort dining (#3), apres ski (#3), mountain character (#4), family programs (#7), challenging terrain (#7), overall terrain (#9), overall satisfaction (#9) and lodging (#10).
"This continues to show that that we're much more than a 'ski town,'" remarked ORDA president/CEO Ted Blazer. "It shows that skiers and guests come to the area to experience and appreciate all that there is to offer, on and off the mountain."
The start of another exciting skiing and riding season is just around the corner. The 2011-12 season is expected to begin, conditions permitting, Friday, Nov. 25. New upgrades this season include seven new automated snow guns, a Pisten Bully Snow Groomer, the new Rossignol Experience rental ski center and enhanced on-mountain dining.
Skiers and riders can still save on their seasons pass . Through Nov. 15, the adult non-holiday pass is just $679. The adult full season pass is only $849, while the young adult full season pass is on sale for just $385. The junior full season pass price is $299; the senior non-holiday is $565; while the senior full season pass price is $720. Skiers and riders over the age of 70 can purchase their full season pass for only $210.

Established in 1982, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created by the State of New York to manage the facilities used during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid. ORDA operates Whiteface and Gore Mountain ski areas; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg; the Olympic speedskating oval, Olympic jumping complex and Olympic arena. As host to international and national championships, the Authority has brought millions of athletes, spectator and participants to the region, resulting in significant economic development.
