Area skied: Whiteface Mountain

Date skied: December 1st, 2007 from 10:45am - 3:00pm

Surface conditions: Packed powder, hardpacked, machine made powder.

Weather: Cold and ocasionally windy, 11F at 10:45am, 13F at 3:00pm

Warren and I arrived at Whiteface a bit late after running into some dangerous snow squalls on I-91 and I-90 that made for exteremly icy roads with cars overturned or off the road.

Whiteface was much better than last friday with snow being made in several places including Upper And Lower Northway, Boreen, and Lower Cloudspin.

Our first run was down Excelsior to Boreen which is a nice gentle green trail which Warren liked alot.

Little Whiteface Summit:

Lower Cloudspin was next with soft sticky machine made powder and mini moguls. Northway had blinding snowmaking going on it and lots of loose powder snow.

Lower Cloudspin:

All told we took 4 top to bottom runs off the gondola and one run on the Face Lift HSQ.

Did you catch up with drifter?

You did not miss anything getting there the time you did. I got up in the morning and took the dog for a walk around 7:30 it was 8 degrees and the wind was howling. Looked at the sight and saw the gondi was on wind hold and made myself some breakfast. Ended up going over around 11:30 after the gondi started spinning. Northway and lower cloud were the places to be Friday Sat and Sunday. Your picture is about the only 4 hour stretch that they did not have the guns going over there and on Northway they did not shut them off for three days. Sunday Northway was like a 25 degree terrain part. There were 5 to 10 foot hits all along the left side. It bumped up pretty good on Sunday for some high speed bump runs. . They fill in the hits with about 8 feet of snow. I am thinking they well be packing it in and moving to different part of the hill. The set the guns up on Mountain run that is going to be open for sure this weekend probably sooner.
They changed the compressors up here which increased the snowmaking ability to 90 guns from 60. You can certainly tell
It was superdackie up here in the high peaks. 2300 vert, 10 minute gondi ride . Powder and no lines. Ice Face for sure. Stay away

We did meet by chance at the bottom of U. Northway. Didn't get a chance to ski with them because they where taking their last run before they left for Sunday River. Both father and son seemed like good people. They'll be talking about these ski road trips for the rest of their lives. Creating family memories is very cool. :-D

When my wife called me before we left from Whiteface to Sunday River and told me that her brother was very sick and probably about to die I was not paying attention to my driving and I got pulled over on route 9N going 71 in 55.

I just talked to the judge and told him what happened and he reduced the fine from a rediculous $355 to $145.
