Wife Drives Thule Box into Garage=Fail!

The Yakima on my subi fits in my garage and the garage at work so it doesn't come off until ski season is over.

That's what I used to do with my old subi, put the box on in November and remove it at the end of ski season. Unfortunately, the door and garage ceiling are too low for my Highlander plus box...

I drove the sucker into the garage with TWO MOUNTAIN BIKES on the roof.

Garage, bikes, roof rack, attachments, and car body damage. Now that is TOTAL FAIL.

Of course I never made it into the garage.

Because of pain of putting things on the top of the car, I've been driving mini-van since I was single. Skies, mountain bike, road bike (but not sail board), they can all go inside and protected from the weather. I throw my skies in at the beginning of the season and they stay there until the end of the season.

My mountain bike fits in my VW GTI just fine. Skis live inside the SUV all winter and fit in the GTI on road trips. It's not like the old days when I was on 207 skinny skis. The longest thing in my quiver is a 185.

I've done plenty of moron things with a car but I've never done the bike rack or thule box in the garage thing. I trashed a couple of road bikes that were on a tailgate rack once. I've had a few other dents backing into things over the years. I've parked the car in neutral and watched it roll away as I was walking away from it.

Okay here's the big confession from me.
I have never run into the garage with something on it, but.......
Our business used to run a porta john business. I tended to run the portajon portion of the business single handedly most of the time because my husband and all our employees were busy on excavation jobs.
One day I delivered a portajon to a local resort that was having an event outside which is when I drover under the overhang in front of their main entrance with the porta jon on it.
Color me Blue with embarrassment...

I was thinking the same thing - how bad it could have been. "A mess" would have been an understatement in that case :blink:

Which reminds me, I never want to have an accident with a truck carrying a loaded one!

I got 2 stories. Growing up my mother drove a Chevy suburban. On a trip to canada the hotel had a parking garage. She pulled the car into the garage and got the car wedged on the concrete beams above. It was a very loud, and sudden stop as the car hit. They lowered the tire pressure to get the car out from under it.

For my own story.....I had a Honda CRV, and was returning from a week at the beach. I loaded my kayaks up on my roof for the drive home. When I got home I needed to go mow some of my lawns, so I backed up to the trailer which was stored in the garage. Unfortunately I had forgotten the kayaks and they hit the house above the garage. The entire roof rack slid forward about 6 inches, and left 2 dents in the siding were the kayaks hit. No damage was done to the kayaks, or the car/thule rack. My father never noticed the house damage till I told him about it years later.
