Resort skied: Wildcat

Date skied: 2.21.10

Conditions: Packed powder, a little scratch in high traffic areas

Trip report:

Arrived at the mountain around 9 to find blue skies, light crowds, mild temps and, to my surprise, light winds!
I have to admit, I really wasnt expecting much today with the lack of new snow & the r@!n we had 2 weeks ago. The drive up diddnt really do much to change that opinion eighter. I cant remember even in lean years, the lack of snow in the MWV like this year. Even Pinkham Notch has only a few inches on the ground instead of feet. Really sad.
But I got to tell you, Wildcat has done a phenomenal job with what snow they do have! We skied nice packed powder all day long. Some nice loose snow was found on the sides and it was heavenly to carve! Some scratch was around but few and far between with PP dominating the day.
You can definately see the damage done by the r@!n under the Quad with huge sections of trail ripped out by the two inches of water that fell from the sky.
Longest line I waited today was MAYBEY 2 minutes. almost every run was pretty much just a few chair wait.
GREAT DAY!

Super. Wildcat is one of those places where you can have a lot fun on a groomer only day. Their trails are very old-school. Narrow and lots of turns. Thanks for the report and pics!

Yeah, I can't believe what they've done with the snow they have either. Wildcat of all places.

While they have done a nice job with the snowmaking, you'd be surprised how much natural snow there is on the upper half of the mountain. Probably 3 feet of natural snowpack on the ridge, more in drifted areas.

Think there's enough cover? I am debating going up this coming weekend (hopefully we get some snow)...

I can not speak for Wildcat, but at Cannon this past Saturday, lower elevation off piste was nasty. And that is nasty bad, not nasty good. I but there was probably plenty of coverage up top but I can not imagine brooks and drainages in NH at lower elevations doing very well right now.

In the 4 times I've been over the past 2+ years, I've never seen the sky (or Mt. Washington) at Wildcat.

I got a blue bird crystal clear $9 March Friday there last year. Simply incredable views of Mt Washington. Took plenty of pictures because I've heard its not that clear very often.

I've only been there once, but I was fortunate enough to have clear views of Mt. Washington most of the day. Absolutely spectacular!

I love the fact that their high speed quad covers 2100 feet of vertical in only 6 minutes! Great place; I'd love to go back, but a 5-hour drive each way made for a really long day trip.
