Platinum is in them too, but I think Rhodium is more expensive. I could be wrong though.

they are indeed both in there. but i think the rhodium is what was featured in the news clip.

Yikes!!!!!!!!!

I sure hope there is a quick resolution. I'm sick for the LiftOPS crew I know. Its damned tough enough NORMALLY for them to transition from summer ops to winter ops in 5-6 weeks.

Just curious, you know what the cats are worth?

i can't remember what they are worth. but i remember hearing what the repair costs and doing one of these  in some areas they were also hitting cars in neighborhoods etc.

just looked it up on line. i drive a wrangler. a new cat for the wrangler would be about $150 plus labor. all that just so some a-hole can sell off the scrap metal.

Hey Breeze, Do they have insurance for thefts like this? Even if they do, how long does it typically take for them to get replacement parts?

Let's hope they catch the people involved and hang them by there nuts on the ziprider. That plus incarceration would be a good punishment.

Catalytic converters are crazy expensive, the one for my car costs way more than $150 (luckily it's bolted up to the turbo under the hood). The thing that could really suck is that if someone is cutting them out with a sawzall there's a chance that they're also cutting up the other exhaust pipes that lead up to the cat. Those pipes that go from the exhaust manifold(s) aren't typically cheap either.

I'd be curious to know what the going rate is for a scrap cat.

I want to score some Banks Headers and a Cat Back for the Jeep. That beast needs to breathe!

That's more what I was wondering. I'm thinking about either scrapping my Bonneville or parting it out. I didn't even think of cats before this thread.

I am certainly not privy to the insurance Q &A , but Doppelmayr CS is top shelf. I question whether Dopp would UPS/FEDEX overnight that much net weight, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility. Dopp will get it there.

Its just a huge glitch in plans that are already tight.

The perps???? OMG thats so easy......... fast track them to the top of the list of other whackjobs , promise them one exclusive chair to the summit when it is -30 F and the wind is blowing 60 MPH NE, and send all mountain staff home so there is no evac. Let them bounce around on some cold hard "scrap" metal at Tower 19, wondering if the sheaves and pulley wheels will hold. See what they think about the value of "scrap metal" .

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I can't imagine it would be very much. Even if the metal inside is valuable they still need to go through a process to get it out. AFAIK there's not a whole lot of the precious metal inside of it.

Depending on the cat type, they bring as little as $25, to as much as $200 apiece. The garage I work at was hit last fall. They sawzalled the converters out of all the pickups in the yard. They take pickups because they are tall enough to crawl under.
