been using Win7 as a Release cannidate for awhile. Installed the full version a couple of days ago. Our campus actually sells 64 bit ultimate for $12 if you have a valid RIC id.

A lot of the reasons that people are still running XP really is cost honestly. I know (from working at my college's Tech support center) we spent $180,000 on our Vista license alone that we almost never ended up using... money well spent. Also until certain programs are vetted compeltely to know they're compatible with all of our servers, we can't release them. (case in point is IE8 right now)

I asked the chair of the CS department at Kean if the University had any discount licenses...no dice. I bought both 32 and 64 bit licenses. I'll hold off on upgrading my desktop until I'm sure the drivers are compatible with my mobo.

I was using vista drivers a few months ago. It definitely wasn't ideal but it worked. I understand you wanting to hold off though.

PS: A couple cool new tricks in Win7. Windows button + left arrow locks a program on the left half of your screen, right arrow moves to the right side. Up arrow maximizes, down once restores. Down twice will minimize.

That's a neat trick. Right now I'm really liking the "pre-view" feature of the new taskbar. Very clever and useful.

No, Windows7. If those features were in Vista, I didn't notice them.
From what I've heard, 7 is largely a relaunch of Vista with SP1 included and better hype. I've got Win7 RC, but Netgear is atrocious with providing drivers so it's been a no-go.

So you upgraded to Vista?

So far, it's been better for me than Vista. I was constantly getting these "Your display driver has stopped responding" errors and my whole PC would lock up for a few minutes and that hasn't happened once on W7.
