So, what's the scuttlebutt? Is the Old Farmer's Almanac out yet? Are the caterpillars extra fuzzy? Anybody lookd at the cat's tail yet?

Any guesses on the combined effects of ozone depletion, la nina, global warming, and whther Jessica Simpson got butt implants?

How about we've had above average hot this summer so we are due for a change to below avg. cold for fall and winter and it stays that way for the season. However, above avg. percepation continues. I want it both ways.

Well, as long as it's got nothing to do with Jessica Simpson's butt (that ought to get some hits from Google), I don't suppose there's much we can do about it...

winter was cancelled this year, sorry guys. hate to be the bearer of bad news and no one is more disappointed than me, but ULLR saw his shadow and got scared so he won't be visiting us with flakes. better luck next year!

I think it will be big. I'm hoping on the recent five year cycle to continue. 1995-6 was a great year. 00-01 was epic.

here's to that trend continuing in 05-06 :D

We can hope. But since 2000-01, it's been a 2 year cycle, which would make thid an off year. But climatologically, hot summers usually lead to snowy winters so we can hope for that. I'm thinking this year will be good early (December into January, blizzard for Christmas), dry in February, and a lot of rain and wet snow in March. First flakes: October 10th (last year it was Sept 29th here), and first accumulation: October 23rd (last year it was November 12th here). Killington Opening Day prediction: November 7th, Okemo opening day prediction: November 5th, Bretton Woods Opening Day prediction: November 5th, Woodbury Opening Day prediction: October 29th. Snowfall prediction for Worcester: 102", Killington: 296".

You guys trying to start a riot?

I think that it will be an epic winter. Of course I think that every year for no particular reason... ;)

i just hope we have more base building and less NCP earlier in the season. last year took a long time getting the entire mountains open because the base was aweful and every dump was followed by NCP. a couple freak december storms not followed by a thaw regardless of the rest of the season would make me a happy man.

Yeah.. Last year was a slow start, every time it started to look promising the NCP would come! How about some freak December storms and a few late in the season to keep us going into June! :)

I too am hoping for a strong early season cuz that's when I plan to head out most. I wouldn't mind some late-November/early-December dumps...

What is being said in the global warming thread is true, it is actually (for the time being) making New England colder. The polcar ice caps are meltign which is strengthening the North Atlantic Current. That pushes the gulf stream further south. The only problem is it means less Nor' Easters. The one good thing this has to do with Nor' Easters is due to the weak current, the storms could move slower (think about it, last years's blizzard was an 18 hour event and we got nearly 3 feet. Imagine if that lasted 2 days.). However, Alberta Clippers have seemed stronger in the past few years.

The weather is getting crazier all over the world, and it's showing here in N.E. We barely had a summer last year. Remember, it was in the 60s half the summer and always seemed to be foggy or misty. This summer seemed to be one of the most humid I've seen in a while (2002 takes the hottest, the 9 day heat wave was brutal that year). This year, it has gotten very hot a lot, but it falls back for a day about every 4 and then goes back up.

Last winter was definitely strange. The temp never stayed the same. It got warm, it got coldm, it snowed, it rained. We had a sh*tload of snow last year, as well as a lot of rain. Imagine if that rain had also been snow. Not to mention you had the snowfall in Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico during Christmas when the same storm brought rain here. Things definitely are changing. Whether it's for the better or the worse, we'll have to find out. Yes, the average temp in NE has gone up around 2 degrees since 1893. However, since 1990, it's probably gone down a good 2. They're never the same though. We went from basically no winter in 2001-2002 to very snowy in 2002-2003 to very cold in 2003-2004. 2004-05 was unique as it was a lot of everything. I can;t imagine how '06 will be because no weather pattern is sticking anymore. Just cross your fingers it snows a lot Thanksgiving-Christmas and then again Presidents Day-St. Patricks Day with a cold stretch in the middle.
