Worst (most bizarre) crash I have had in a while

Saturday at Loon I landed a small jump on the side of the trail (skiers right) then skied over to my wife who was watching from the opposite side of the trail. As I did a hockey stop next to her, I suddenly slid backwards down the steep edge of the trail into the woods. I looked back just in time to see the main water and air pipes for the snowmaking system. I hit the pipes with the back of my thighs going pretty fast and flipped over backwards over the pipes down into the woods further. I tell you, it hurt like hell. Luckily I just ended up with a bruised left thigh and sore knee. My buddy came down to help me out, all while my wife and daughter (who was filming the post crash extraction) were calling out if I was all right. Looking back it's pretty funny.

I did something similar at Jiminy. Hockey stop at the top of North Glade, but turn to far down the hill and slide backwards off the trail INTO a maintenance shed. Other than a broken pole the only thing that suffered injury was my ego.

It's a good thing when we can screw up with stuff like that and just laugh at ourselves. Done plenty of things like that myself. Some pople aren't lucky enough to do it and say "All I did was bend my pole".

After skiing the upper face at Whiteface we hit the middle leg of the run and hit solid ice. My wife was in the middle of the run and froze. I was on the side on some hardpack. I talked her over to me, very slippery. then I go to make a turn, hit some snow and my ski pops off. Now I'm screwed and go down. My ski slides away from me. All the skiers start coming down that little 4 foot wide patch I'm on. One guy gets my ski but there is no way I can get it back on. Any move I make sends me sliding. I give him my other one to bring to my wife who is at the bottom waiting for me. I had to slide down on my ass using the tip of my pole like an ice axe. Tool me about 15 minutes of terror. I figured that if i just slid I would gain too much speed and go off into the woods. It was about a 30 or so degree pitch. Never had this happen to me. Wonder what else I could have done.

I have done the "Whiteface Death Slide" also. However, in my case I was lucky. A skier that I did not know skied down ahead of me, cut in front of me and dug in his edges stopping us both. I really thought I was going into the woods.

About 15 skiers skied around me, pretty scary if one had hit me.

i didn't get enought speed going into a box so i didn't get high off the fun onto it and slamed dead center into the one side of the box.

unfortunately the video only shows me down in the woods post crash and my buddy helping me out. Too bad she didn't get the whole thing!
