From today's drift email....

Less than 100 days until we fire up the World’s Most Extensive Snowmaking System as we prepare to kick off the 2009-10 season. Are you ready? Do you have your season pass? If not, now is the time to lock in great prices for the coming season on our Midweek, Blackout and Unlimited Season Passes.

Yaaaawn.

Back in the summer of 1997, they closed on June 22nd and opened Oct. 1st, only closing skiing for 100 days.

Just got the email too. 85 days to 10/31. Are they shooting for that or 11/14 is 99 days?

Well played, sir.

I'm guessing they're going to repeat last year. Start going as soon as a reasonable window opens, but they aren't going to promise anything earlier than 11/15. Unfortunately this reflects the fact that they haven't installed the 5000 ft airbag under the mountain to give them that additional elevation boost to enable earlier snowmaking.

great, i couldnt even hold out one day.

Since the trucks arent coming back, there is no midstation and we're in the midst of a full on economic crisis, i cant see how comparing this years possible opening to what happened in 1997 valid.

Additionally, with so many companies needing to run their businesses from a perspective other then top line, how can you justify blowing all that coin for a minimal return? Regardless of what they do, whether we're talking about killington or any other area, the only reasonably sure fire way to stay profitable in this economy is by managing expense and hoping for a reasonable return on that investment. Buying your sales is not a prudent way to operate in this environment.

Given a choice, would the average skier that populates message boards (meaning a relatively intune and dedicated skier) rather see a portion of the snowmaking budget blown on an early november or late october opening only to see it wash down the hill, or save that money and use it to resurface more and provide a longer season on the back end?

Personally, i would choose the latter all day long, so the later openings dont bother me at all. Again, whether we're talking about killington or any other mountain.

Nothing more than a sales gimic. They're only trying to sell passes now.

why would you ban yourself???

Before I became a won’tist I would sometimes get angry and filled with negative vibes based on forum discussions. I knew I needed to take a break before I went too far flame wise. Looking back I think I did go too far a few times especially with you and Greg. I use to call those breaks self-banning.

It's easy to fall off the self-banning wagon. Believe me I know, I've banned myself multiple times. Don't be too hard on yourself.;-)
OSME did for about a month

why would you ban yourself???
If you have nothing constructive to add to the conversation remain silence and wait for the bad feeling to go away. Sometimes that takes a few days.

That's not true old buddy, there where plenty of times you went off the deep end over things I wrote about you. Without giving away PM corespondence you made official complaints about me. You got so mad at me you threathened me physically and I was asked offically if I wanted anything done about it. I said I felt you where harmless and wanted no action taken. All in the past just keepin it real.

November 15th is a reasonable date to shoot for. I hope we have great cold weather this year and lots of mountains are open with decent terrain by Thanksgiving.

Get a thousand skiers a day at $80/ticket when there's no other game in town? That coin makes itself back pretty quickly. It's really the lower altitude stuff that melts off anyways, the snow they make for the NRT sticks around if it's cold enough to blow down to the base.

So early as possible given the current situation I'd say reasonable expecation, 1997 not so much.
