What's up with theis partial list thing from the "Skiers Responsibility Code"?

I took this off the NSP website... And even they have the quote. "This is a partial list. Be safety conscious."

Anybody seen the rest? Is it around anywhere? Someone check it out and forget to return it?

1 Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
2 People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
3 You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
4 Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
5 Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
6 Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
7 Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.

Know the code. It's your responsibility.

This is a partial list. Be safety conscious.

I think what that means is that these safety items are only part of what it takes to be safe...

Riiiight.... If it's so important to quantify - why not just list everything?

If you had to do that then the list would be biblical! Let's face it, you can't list all the stupid things that people are capable of doing.

Bottom line about the "code": all it's saying is don't be a jerk/moron/a$$hole. And the world is full of folks who are. There are plenty who ski/ride.

Get used to it.

Agreed. It's next to impossible. Plus this form allows ski areas to adopt their own unique policies.

And that's why it is so heinous that folks try to sue ski areas. You've got a crowd of folks with mixed abilities who are pretty much allowed to go wherever they please.

If the area tries to segment where people ski according to ability, there are complaints. When a beginner ignores a trail marking and winds up on the bump run to hell, the skier whines that it's the ski area's fault. When people fly off of everything around without looking, they blame the person standing downhill, and the person crossing a run without looking up who gets flattened blames the uphill skier.

I feel like dmc does...it really makes me mad !

Yep, as discussed before, people need to take responsibility for their actions...

Now trailboss, you know that will never, ever happen.

Rule #1, in skiing as in everything, is "Think." Unfortunately, most people apply section (a) to that, which is "of who to blame"

i think im going to start going to MRG, get away from those idiot New Yorker and snowboards   jk dmc i had to say it

speaking of the code, i got into a very confusing accendent at sugarloaf, on a cut across i hit a girl head on, luckily no one was hurt, i think that was defiantly a gray area.... i obviously turned right and for some unknown reason she turned left(maybe from Europe and used to driving on the wrong side of the road?) but i cant imagine the agarument if she got hurt because i also think she was a racer

It only becomes a flame war when the flames start... A poll is cool...
I get the sense that this is a hardcore skier board..

I do telemark and sometimes ski bumps.. I consider myself less a snowboarder and more and alpinist... Or soemthing like that...

All this BS makes me just want to blow off resort skiing all together..

Things are just SOOOO differnt from the way they were "back in the day"...

Skiing was a crazy ass sport... People took risks.. Joked around... Partied... Things sorted themselves out on the mountain without lawsuits... When I was on a trail that was over my head - I respected the people that could ski it well and gave them a wide berth or just didn't move and let them go by..

Now it's all us vs. them... Be carefull... Don't harrass the beginners... Slow down... don't jump...

Sucking the soul right out of the sport... :-?

Cool 8) ...it does bother me that whenever stupidity on the slopes is discussed that somehow NY always winds up in the middle of the conversation.

You obviously are a good kid, you addressed this like a man  . Your parents did a good job; tell then I said to drive you up to Mt. Washington already!

Ya, one of these days where going to go up there, hopefully there will be snow... this saterday would of looked nice for a hike/ski up ther but my dads truck has a half flat tire and a nail in another so he doesnt trust it on the highway going all the way up there.
Next year though if we can get a spot well go up for april vacation and stay up a hermit lake shettlers for a few days(or were going to snowbird) but either one of those sound good.... hopefully if we go up there wont to be many crazy massholes
