    Comparing Cannon with Whiteface

I hear ya, BG. You are spot on regarding Lookout Below. It is very much the equivalent of the double black front four at Stowe. Yes, in the context of 'universal rating' I guess I am agreeing with you. Someday maybe, but a universal system we don't have. As for WF, the Slides, while at...

    Comparing Cannon with Whiteface

Those trails look great at Smuggs. Just so I have a point reference for your position, can I assume you have skied Slides 1 through 4, and the Cloudsplitter, Sugar Valley, and Rand's glades at WF?

    Comparing Cannon with Whiteface

Well, that first part had to be Victoria? That can be tough, especially when bumped up (usually only half is) or "firm" (which can be often)......but I don't think it deserves a black diamond, if you look at the rating system as intended....which is relative to other trails on the mountain...

    Sundown Moguls.

Had a fun half day yesterday. Things were a bit firm early, and the bumps didn't soften until a little later than I'd hoped. They got nice between 11:30 and 12:00. Kept getting better until I had to cut out at 1:00. The middle section doesn't have the greatest lines set up, but the whole...

Possible big snow for the north this weekend

Over in NY Whiteface is reporting 8 inches at the base. Waiting to see if that number goes up once they get up top. Gore only reporting 3.

    Death at Stratton

Yeah, maybe the way more advanced skiers ski, helmets might be less likely to save a life given the kinds of impacts that might occur....but that doesn't mean they can't save you from a lot of pain and non-life-threatening injury. I had one incident on Skyward at WF this season where the summit...

Possible big snow for the north this weekend

mountain-forecast for Lincoln Peak at 3,900' is calling for 6 inches Sat night into Sun, no r^*n.

    Death at Stratton

I'm a helmet advocate, too.....but have you seen more details regarding this incident that I haven't? Do we have enough info to make that kind of statement? In any collision I'd rather take my chances with a helmet than without....but it isn't always going to save you. Too many unknown...

    Death at Stratton

Thoughts and prayers to the friends and family. Such a loss, like the recent one at Whiteface, is always tragic, no matter the circumstances. Regardless of what one believes, we can all agree that they need support at a time like this, not that we can actually do anything for them. I do...

    Sundown Moguls.

Haven't been back to Sundown in a few years, but I have to be in Hartford for the weekend and early Sat is open. Based on the current forecast (warm with showers Friday, above freezing temps overnight, and cloudy mid 40's Sat through 1:00) it looks like there could be a 4 hours ticket to ski...

How do you carry your skis?

I do the Alabama Hot Pocket......oh, sorry, wrong discussion. I gotta go figure out what all these names mean. Upside down over the shoulder, whatever that's called.

    Whiteface & Gore: 04/09 & 04/10

Slide 2 to where it connects back with Slide 1.....agreed, not very difficult, just like Slide 1 up to the falls. Those falls, however, if you ski down the them as opposed to going around the side....that's pretty technical stuff. Now, if you venture left into the trees as you get down...

Whew.....now I'm glad nothing in the Dacks is likely to make it to Easter!

Don't beat yourself up for running instead of the walk. Stuff happens in life, and you never know. My wife's reaction to my injury? 'You should have cancelled soccer practice because it was wet!" Well, I suppose we could all cancel everything in life and sit inside....lest something bad...

    Whiteface & Gore: 04/09 & 04/10

I do recall in the way past, you'd head left off the Quad as you normally do. Along the ridge and up to the right, there were signs for the Slides where you had to climb up. I never went in that way, but I can see how it would bring you in further up in the Slides.

Whew.....now I'm glad nothing in the Dacks is likely to make it to Easter!

Ouch. While I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night.....I've self diagnosed that I don't have a complete Grade III tear, in large part because my calf muscle didn't do the shade roll up thing and bunch up under my knee. Seems the muscle is still...

Whew.....now I'm glad nothing in the Dacks is likely to make it to Easter!

I've never experience "the ripple", but I'm guessing this is a little worse. It was an audible "pop", in conjunction with the feeling like I got hit with something in the leg. Muslce knotted up immediately and down I went. I can walk, though not well, so I'm not thinking a couple weeks is...

Whew.....now I'm glad nothing in the Dacks is likely to make it to Easter!

'Cause it's never a good think when you hear a muscle go 'pop'.........and it would be even worse if it meant I couldn't ski when I was hoping to. Pretty bad Grade II strain of my calf suffered while running soccer practice with my 12 year old's. Yeah, I really showed 'em the right way to do...

    Whiteface & Gore: 04/09 & 04/10

They do enforce the 'no uphill climbing' rules, so you really shouldn't go above the main traverse. It is nice up there though.......Last time my brother and I hit the Slides we took what I liked to call the 'high traverse'. Angle slightly left and up from where the main traverse goes across...

    Lets all be thankful

I'll be greatful.......if Whiteface makes it through Easter weekend. They just got a foot of fresh and the coverage is great, so my fingers are crossed. Too busy to get away before that, but we'll be there if they are open.

    Snow at whiteface

What makes you guess no? Coverage issues, or business issues? It's not like they've never been open through April 20 something. A few years back I skied there April 20, including the Slides. 'Course, the economy might have been a little better back then.....
