Hello folks. I've set up my own DIY tuning and waxing center at home and I'm getting fed-up with using chairs to hold my skis. I'm thinking of getting some vises but they're kind of expensive. I was planning to go the cheaper route and found this Swix Ski Lasso at the local ski store.

Anyone of you have any experience with these Ski Lassos? Are they worth it or should I just pay the extra dollars for the vises? Any "vise advice" would be appreciated. Thanks!

I looked at that vise, but ended up going with the Swix Pro 5000 or something like that instead. It was on sale and has been AWESOME. In general, you have to be careful which vise you do get because conventional ones no long work with shaped skis.

IIRC the Lasso holds the ski by the binding and can be rotated so that you do the edges, much like mine does.

IIRC I think when I was doing research, I also found some :-? reviews on it....don't hold me to it though.

i have the lasso's....it was a gift. they suck. They hold down the ski via the bidnings. my problem is that it doesnt really hold the ski tight. Often I find that it will slide around when I am scraping the wax off. It isnt much of a problem when I am doing edge work.

Overall it is a good beginner tool. It is more annoying then anything else. I still get by fine with it but just can put to much pressure on the ski when I wax.

Different subject matter and different author from my POV. This specifically asks about a product....not general waxing advice.

Objection overuled. Proceed.

Tee Hee... :D I was only poking fun........I was actually pointing out the fact that why bother with the vise when theres really no need to tune em..... :D ;-) as stated in the previously listed post

Thanks for all the advice, folks. I really appreciate it. Really helpful in making up my mind.

Looks like it's a bust with the Ski Lasso. I've been comparing that to the vises on Tognar and some other ones around here. The lasso is about $20 bucks cheaper but I guess you get what you pay for.

On another note, heard all the pros and cons on waxing and tuning. Good arguments both ways. At the end of the day, I guess I just need to be doing something ski related between trips to the mountains on weekends. Have to keep my hands busy. Otherwise....=)

Besides, I looked up the price of waxing and tuning here in Boston and judging by the number of times I've had to wax and tune li'l snowmonster's and my skis, I've already come out ahead.
