Check it out. It's currently in prototype and will be distributed to people in 3rd world countries. I would think that it will eventually be available to the public. It would certainly come in handy on a hike.

That's pretty cool, but it's just an adaption of exisiting technology. There are several devices out there that you can just pump water through for purification on hiking trips. I'd rather do that and fill up a few water bottles than have to stoop over a stream to drink my water through a straw. I can see how it would be useful and probably cost effective in the third world.
