Let's end this right now....Here's the winner....

I struggle for breath
As the billowing pow-pow
Dances in my arcs.

Okay....maybe not....but I timed it and that represents 94 seconds of brain usage. Am I some kind almost poetical genius ? Wait...I feel another Haiku coming on....

I humped my skis last night
I enjoyed the rotten aroma of my boots too
I dreamt of mice being shot out of a cannon

Haiku

From: http://volweb.utk.edu/Schools/bedford/harrisms/haiku.htm

“Haiku is a poetic form and a type of poetry from the Japanese culture. Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. Haiku poets, which you will soon be, write about everyday things. Many themes include nature, feelings, or experiences. Usually they use simple words and grammar. The most common form for Haiku is three short lines. The first line usually contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables. Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind. This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagery in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 syllables over just three (3) lines of poetry! Check out some Haiku at Haiku Salon (see Lesson 2 for the link).”

Haiku poetry
Is easy for someone to do
Like a bunny slope.

Sorry about that

The snow sparkles bright,
Soft powder, glistening light;
The untracked carpet.

Skis in your safe grip,
Tuned with care, ready to run
They plop in the fluff.

The "click" sounds just right,
You shove off, gliding with ease.
Riding waves of white.

The wind finds your nose
And cheeks and ears; sometimes toes.
But never bothers.

The legs now fatigue,
The lodge now comes to full view,
Look back, your first tracks.

Everyone behind,
All are jealous of your paint,
On the blank canvas.

The day ends with bliss,
A hot coffee or cocoa,
With the fire, thaws you.

Gathering, apres ski,
Comraderie from the day,
Continues with drinks.

All head in early,
One day spent, another lurks,
Just over the ridge.

Your head spins a bit,
In bed, you reflect once more,
You feel so alive.

I know traditionally you're not supposed to link haikus... but I was bored... I hope it conjurs some thoughts for everyone!

I dream of powder
First day on the hill - alas!
It's hardpack and ice

One big crowded trail
Is far, far superior
To no trail at all

December comes soon
And with it, big Nor'Easters
Darn, not soon enough!

Today I saw snow
On top of Mt. Washington
From the Kingdom - Sweet!

What an awesome thing
To see the glistening white
From west of St. J

I give many thanks
To whoever picked that spot
Scenic overlook!
