I might turn a blind eye as long as everyone plays nice. But I will lock threads, (I'm actually surprised I haven't yet... ) if they get nasty or out of hand. If we are thinking of the same thread it didn't seem ALL that political.

Yes; forum rule in general still stands no politics. But sometimes politics is like porn, you know it when you see it. So don't get overzeolous now... this is an outdoor enthusiast forum, after all !

I agree with that and I get the feeling Nick might if it wasn’t for the mods. If he let GSS back for a trail period, he might be worried that the mods would bolt faster than Newt Gingrich’s top aides did when he did some things they didn’t agree with. POOR Newt.

Or maybe he recognizes the success the site's had with the rules currently in place, and doesn't want to screw around with a good thing.

Maybe....but GSS was around AZ for a long time and it was just as successful then.

If the Cannon Mountain thread doesn't convince Nick to let GSS out on probation, then nothing will. It's going to be a long summer...

I buy into his reasons. I can see how a person could get burnt out from running this site and want more time to devote to other things.

I heard his aides had a big sit-down with him and told him that they thought it really wasn't a good time to go away on a vacation (cruise) due to the economy and it wouldn't look good that he should stick around and do some appearances but apparently his wife said otherwise. My wife and I were actually on vacation a few years ago in Bermuda and went out to dinner in town and who do I see sitting at a small table...Newt and his wife. Apparently she likes more than just fine jewelry from Tiffany's....she has a taste for travel as well...and keeping her man on a short leash!
