No more new footage to be shot, just splicing pieces of old, existing footage together.

Since WM retired and junior sold it, the product has sucked. Sucked hard. They were already using clips of Warren’s previous narration. Anyone who was involved that claims they did not see this change coming is either lying or really had their heads buried deep in the snowbank. It’s been a long time coming.

I went to the show in 2004. The promos were good, movie not so much. Way overboard on product placement. The next winter I did not even consider it even though I could’ve gone to the show in Burlington and got a decent ski ticket. I was more interested in the Meaheads and their “Ski the East” tour. Local guys, local, terrain, more fun, and much more oriented to me at that phase in my life. Warren Miller hasn’t filmed on the East Coast in quite some time. I went to at least three other annual events that the Meatheads put on. Bought a lot of their movies and swag. Even then, they are not making movies anymore.

Next one I saw was in 2017 or so. I was pleasantly surprised. Still product placement but my expectations were lower. Decent promos.

I went to one the next year. The complete opposite. Garbage. Overly hyped, bad promos, too much product placement of stupid things NOBODY attending would buy (who is going to buy a Pisten Bully? Seriously…). The 2017 movie made the women athletes into positive role models for kids. In 2018 they portrayed the same women as partying sluts. No joke. It was bad. They also made other on-air talent look like complete d-bags. We were thoroughly disgusted and will not go back.

I saw one post, on a ski social media site claiming that Warren Miller is rolling in his grave over this decision. Let’s be honest, he was already pissed off with them before he died. The franchise was on its way down hill along time ago.

One big thing that nobody is talking about is that right now everybody and their grandmother is making their own ski movies. Some of them are pretty good. Teton Gravity Research, Matchstick Productions, and many other smaller production companies. There is a lot of competition. Anyone can find a movie that suits their interests. This franchise just did not keep up with the Joneses. Additionally, my understanding was their demands to film on location were quite excessive. I believe I’ve heard from several sources that they commanded at least six figures to show up and do a filming session. Nobody is going to pay that.

I will still watch the older films has tradition, but I’m never going to another one at a theater again.

Right where I want to be
I went for the freebies but those have dried up the last few years.
Used to get sugarbush free tix, Cannon, early season Smuggs, 2 fers for Killington and they would give everyone a free raffle ticket.

This year 2 fer waterville and 1 whaleback ticket. Also no free raffle but you could buy them for $20 an arm length.

Despite the declining quality, we still went every year and made a night of it. This years was pretty good with the kid that won the trip. Definitely, a bit too much wokeness creeping in.

My favorite scene from a Warren Miller flick is the one where they show the guy whose job it is to walk the tram cable at Snowbird. As he is up there he stops somewhere in the middle and the camere which is zoomed into him, zooms out to a very wide shot while he stops and lights up a joint.

I went to this years and it was terrible. I never cared about the freebies, but it was a like woke focus group of non-skiers decided to put out ski movie. Like I'm glad adaptive programs are a thing but I don't want to see them ski in a movie.

That said, I think this isn't exclusive to Warren Miller. The ski movie thing is past its prime. 10 years ago every pro was clamoring for a spot and we all waited for the movies to come out to see the rad lines. Now they are on youtube or tiktok or IG within hours of being skied. Truthfully I like that format better than 60 minutes of ski movie of which, even in the hey day, was 45 minutes of filler.

how are they pushing wokeness in the movies, a disproportionate amount of women or..? i don't watch them anymore because they are too generic and don't suit my interest. i prefer old meatheads films (r.i.p) or amateur street edits lol.

That’s my first thought when I saw the title. It has been discussed before too.

I went a couple times to get the freebies way back when. There were probably quite a lot of us who were there not for the film ;) Now with the changing mountain ownership scene, those freebies aren’t as sought after as before.
