These lifts aren't about adding capacity as much as servicing a mid mountain learning center. Other than Pali, most people don't go back to the base area and ride that lift other than first thing in the morning.

It just seems like an unnecessary wishlist to add such a short gondola. This is very much like what Jackson Hole has I guess...

I thought Pallavacini was more of a Castle Rock type situation where the diehards wanted to try and maintain history.

100%

It was kept as a double to help snow preservation on that terrain. As mentioned above it is also the only base area lift that provides direct access to the beavers. The other way to get there requires 2 lifts.

Seems like the gondola would have a similar usefulness as the short one at Beaver Creek. I hear the instructors love it. It lets them load all the kids into one cabin and no worries about chair loading. Right now the mountain is not set up very well for beginners/novices. Looks like this will be a big improvement in that area and also add another route to the top.

Actually A Basin's plans look very similar to what Alterra is doing over at Winter Park. In that case they are removing the Gemini lift and putting in a gondola up to the area of the Oassis Lodge, where there is a large area and lifts suitable for novice skiing. They already have a cabriolet from parking lots. The gondola is supposed to be multi staged feeding Vasquez Ridge (another area of expansion planned for there) then a connection to downtown Winter Park. I have no problems with what Alterra is doing.

Two more BC resorts, and closer to home Butternut have joined the Ikon 2-day parade. I think every ski area in the Berkshires (except Otis?) has a home at this point.

Between my Ikon and Indy Pass I have tickets to pretty much all the Berkshire ski areas. Otis Ridge being the exception. They make a decent 1/2 way point between NJ and VT/NH Could day trip them too I guess. God I hope we get a decent winter

It’s only on the full Ikon. Same with Jiminy Peak. Would be interesting to know how many full passes are sold in comparison to the Base Pass. I have had the full pass for going to Aspen for years but unless you are going to the premium resorts that require the full pass I bet more go with the base pass

There's also a decent amount of people that either want or even "need" to ski during holiday periods. Those people are all buying full passes. So it isn't just the "premium" resorts driving full vs base decisions.

We've been getting the full Ikon so we can hit Sugarbush or Stratton over the holidays and so that we can ski a week at Jackson Hole.

Jiminy Peak might be OK to hit for a day trip. We used a day at Windham every now and then. Does Jiminy still groom everything except 1 trail?

Not to mention the 7 vs 5 days on the full Ikon pass. I know I typically use all 7 days at K, Loon and River. Although next year I think I might downgrade to base and add an Indy pass into the mix. I think the cost outlay is pretty similar as long as I can manage the blackout dates.

yep. i ski 4-7 days over xmas, every single MLK weekend, and i tend to take my big trip over presidents bc my company gives us the one day off.

i have used my full pass to access jackson/sun valley/alta, etc, but its not why i buy it. entirely for 7x killington and holiday access.
