Killington wants to open and stay open. A small window of cooler air in October may allow them to paint the grass for a day or 2 of being open, but not long term. I remeber when they would open Upper Cascade for a few days early season on a thin base.

Per Instagram, Bear Mtn booster upgraded from 1800 gpm to 2500 gpm.

What's the overall Bear fees? I'm surprised the booster was so small.

They also used to truck customers to and from the lift, right? I heard a rumor that option went away after someone fell out.

That was during the ASC days after the K1 went in. They used the Canyon Quad to up and download. Rode in the pickup bed, it had a mounted hand rail setup. But yeah, heard someone fell out and that ended that.

Why not?

Looking at the Mansfield snow graphs, there's not a lot of support for any changes since the 50's. Look at 56-57, a dismal year. The early October snows are all over the place for which year they happened. Last season there was one of the largest October snows in 75 years, and it was in the top 5 until the March heat wave. The number 2 year for snowpack depth was 01-02. 3rd highest is 2018-19. The rumor of shortened ski seasons in VT is quite overrated.

What has happened over the last 75 years is wide variation in the weather. To adapt the old adage,

"If you don't like the weather this season, wait a year."

Click the drop down to select the season you'd like to view.
Click anywhere on a certain snow line and the season will be displayed upper left.
The brown line is last season.

Notice the mid September (small) snowfall in 85-86. I guess that's what people mean when they talk about the great snows of the 80's.

Snowfall amounts are nearly meaningless for October. The temps aren't there and those are what matter most.

Those aren't boosters they are wet pits.

The Bear pond is fed from 3 sources: Woodward (tons of water but most has to keep going over to snowshed), Falls Brook (limited possible withdrawal based
on mean flow rates ) and Ottaquechee pump station (also limited by mean flow rates).

Bear has always been much smaller than the Basin due to less water and lack of electrical service. Heard GMP ran new lines up Bear MTN Road recently this could be the result.

Haven't seen any close up pictures but the new lift looks like it's going to have a hell of a breakover at the top.

Sorry for not keeping up with this thread. I thought I saw some grand plan last year about tearing down Ramshead lodge and the parking lot etc...in order to replace it with for pricey hotel rooms for the rich people. Is that happening? This coming season? All I see on the internet is news about the new Superstar lift.

That’s the long term plan but not for the coming season. Both Ramshead and Snowshed lodges to be torn down and replaced by a single large lodge. Heres an article with more info
