I know this should be in Gear at least, and likely tho bootfitting thread, but I know one of you guys will have the answer long before Jeff has a chance to read the question.

My wife's boots are 7.5 sized, 24.5 in mondopoint, and has 299 stamped on the heel. I know the 299 fits into a range around mondopoint, but does anyone have a chart that shows the ranges?

The 299 has no direct relation to the size of the boot. All it is, is the actual length of the sole of the boot. It is used by the techs to adjust your bindings. Some companies will make there soles a little longer or shorter than each other. For sizing of the boot all you need to worry about is the Mondo sizing.

You may want to check this link out http://www.untracked.com/a9pg1-boot_fitting_mondopoint_conversion_chart.html . Hawkshot99 is correct about the sole length. One thing, although it may be rare, I have had an issue with the sole length. My wife had purchased a pair of boots from a clearance rack, great boot, she really liked them. The following season, I got her a new pair of skis with an intergrated binding system. The sole length was too short for these skis and we had to buy her new boots, which she loved :)

Then she has some tiny feet. I am pretty sure most integrated bindings go down to around the 250-260 area(cant remember exact)

I have to disagree with you on that one Hawk. You are right on the money with the the number being the length of the boot, but the first thing he should do is take the liner out of the boot and do a shell fit for his wife. So 299 is the size of the boot. Thats what boot fitters use.

Not all boots are sized in mondo point, some are UK some US or both.

Excellent, Hawk- I knew it had to be something like that. Many thanks.
As it turns out, my wife has small feet, too, but not as small as she was thinking. We got orthotics made for her, and they'll only fit in a size nine, not the 7.5's she's been buying. No wonder her feet hurt.

That 299 is not the length of the shell(as in a shell fit without liner). It is the length of the sole of the boot. The tabs that stick out in front of and behind the shell. The 299 is not used in anything but when the tech is adjusting the bindings.

Ok, but the last time I had boots fitted I brought my old boots with me they were 305mm.
After doing some measurements the fitter told me he recommended me going to a 295mm in the same model boot.

Well that is odd. Of all the boot boxes that I have looked at They list mondo, US, and metric. I dont think I have seen the mm sizing, but I could be wrong.

No, you're right. It was UK size on the box, he just referred to the sole length number when he was referring to what would be my best size. The boots have Uk, US and sole length on them. Dobie Pro 130's.

Boot size trivia

here's a nugget you can use to amaze your friends - take the mondo point size and add the numbers together and you'll get the US size. for example, if the mondo point size is 27, the US equivlant is size 9. another example, if the mondo point size is 28.5, the US size is.......you guessed it - 10.5.

this will work from mondo point 21 (4) to 29.5 (11.5). Size 12 is MP30.

Only works for men though.

For women, add the two mondo numbers then minus 1.

so a 26= 2+6=8-1= womens 7

Yes I made a typo in my math. 21 would be 2+1=3. Had to give you something to talk about....

However, I will offer a correction to the math submitted about women's sizing. Take the mondo point numbers, add them together and ADD 1 to get the size. So 26 would be 2+6+1=9.

And yes, most boots have one shell size that covers 2 US sizes and the liners/footbeds account for the different sizing.
