Specially in the Franconia/Littleton area. What's the cheapest way to go if I stay 2 nights almost every weekend the whole winter? Ski clubs seem like a good option but everyone I checked out you have to be over 21. It would be nice to have a place I could just go to and not have to book a room every time I go. Anything?

Also, I could do MRV, Stowe, or Jay. Its just that the Franconia area would be the best.

get a part time job at a Marriott hotel. You could stay at the Fairfield in in Concord for $35 a night with the employee discount. Also from Mid-November to Mid-January, holiday employee rate is sales tax only, so in NH, you stay for free.

I bartend once a month at a Marriott for the discount program, it's the best in the business.

not always. It depends on how busy the hotel is when you make a reservation. There are very few near ski resorts in NE, but there's a Fairfield in Williston if I go to ski Stowe and don't want to coach surf at friends and then there's one in Concord for skiing at Cannon.

It's a heluva deal and yes, you only need to work once a month. That's a tough gig to get though. I was a manager at a Marriott first and switched careers, but kept on good terms with the GM and only work one day a month. It also enables me to get discounts for friends and family.

In the situation I described, he'd probably have to offer up two shifts a week, which could be as little as four hours a nigh hosting or bussing in the hotel restaurant.

I stay at the AlpenRose in Stowe for $50 a night during Spring Skiing time..That gets you a room with cable, a bed, Cable with RSN, and a mini-fridge. The Stowe Motel wanted $70 a night so I called the AlpenRose from the Stowe Motel parking lot to see if they could beat that price..

Then after skiing..you can go back to your room..eat some pizza and drink some beer..and you can walk the recreation path about a mile East to Pie-Casso where Jake Burton often hangs out. The View of Mount Mansield is spectacular from the AlpenRose on the mountain road in Stowe...

Too much money.

Concord is too far. I'm looking to stay in the Franconia area so I can ski Cannon, Mt. Washington, and Jay all with pretty easy access.

Basically I'm looking for a bed to sleep in, that's it. As long as I'm warm I'm fine. The cheaper the better.

Also, anyone ever slept in one of the 3 sided shelters in the camp ground at the bottom of Stowe? That would be perfect for me as long they as I could find somewhere to park and they don't check the place in the winter.

You could stay at the Taft lodge on Mount Mansfield for free and it would involve a 2+ mile hike on the Long Trail but you'd get first tracks for sure..

You could check with the Appalachian Mountain Club. They have something that's a bit East of BW on the highway that goes over toward N. Conway. Might not be the exact location you're looking for but it might be cheap. I don't know any details whatsoever.

Yeah, right around Crawford Notch there is some AMC place.

Buy one of these with a carbon monoxide detector and sleep in your car.

--There are a ton hostels (usually around $20-$25) in the Mt Washington Valley area, but surprisingly not in the Franconia Notch area. I know there's one in the Plymouth area, although that's around 45 minutes south of Franconia.
--There's the AMC Highland Center on Rt-302 between Bretton Woods and Attitash, which would put you closer to places in the Mt Washington Valley area and Maine, but would add around 35-40 minutes to any places in VT. I was there recently, and I think it was around $40 for a bunk & breakfast for non-members.
--The Lonesome Lake AMC Hut in Franconia (around a 800' vertical hike part-way up Cannon/Kinsman) is in self-service mode during the Winter for I think around $30 for non-members. However, I've never been there in the Winter, and don't know if that would be too dangerous if you're not with a group.
--I don't think you're going to find anything cheaper than finding 2-3 people to go with, and splitting the cost of a cheap motel/hotel (a few on Rt-18 between downtown Franconia and Cannon; a bunch on Rt-3 between Franconia and Twin Mountain; several in Littleton). Vacancy fills-up quickly in this area during winter, though, once the snow hits--not just from skiiers, but from the snowmobile crowd.

While not a ski town itself, Littleton is actually one of the best towns to "setup shop" for skiing northern VT, NH, and ME, because it's at the crossroads of i-93, rt-302, rt-2, and next to the i-91 junction in St J. I never head north with the idea of going to any one resort--I just go to Littleton and setup shop (I grew-up there, so I stay with relatives), and then decide each day which place I want to go to based on weather and snow conditions (and who is running two-fer deals that day!):
--Four places within 30 minutes: Cannon, Bretton Woods, Loon, Burke
--Six within 45 minutes: above four, plus WV Valley and Attitash.
--Ten within 60 minutes: above six, plus Tenney, Cranmore, Black, and Wildcat
--75 minutes not only gets you to all the bigger ones in northern VT (Jay, Stowe/Smuggs, Sugarbush/MRG [maybe a few minutes more for these two]), it also gets you the other way to Sunday River, as well as up to Orford in Quebec, or at least it did before the border crossing became an ordeal.

Good info but Littleton, NH to Sugarbush is around 2hrs

I thought it only took me 1.5 hours to get to MRG last time, but maybe I'm misremembering, since it's been a few years since going there. I've been stuck in a rut of Jay, Burke, and Stowe when going to VT lately, although that's not necessarily a bad rut to be in... In any case, the MRV area is on my agenda for this year, although I'll probably only make it to one of them this year.

Although, I guess I'm also basing the times off my parents' house, which is on the far western edge--next to the river/border and under 20 seconds from an i-93 entrance ramp, so VT places are somewhat quicker to get to for me than someone from downtown Littleton.
