So I'm playing at Slopes in Tannersville NY on Saturday night... Right in the middle of a song and I look around and see cops everywhere... One guy walks up - pulls out a badge - takes the mic out of singers hand and tells us to stop playing... i thought maybe it was a noise thing but there were too many cops around for that..

A mix of uniformed and undercover told the crowd to lineup for ID check.. All exits were blocked by uniforms...

Undercover cops started going through the bottles using flashlights.. Asked us a bunch of questions.. Took over an hour for everyone to leave the bar while being checked by the sheriffs and then come back in and get rechecked by the bar bouncers...

Nobody got busted for underage and apparently all the booze was legit... A total waste.. We took the opportunity to tear down and load out while the bar was empty... the guy who runs the joint was livid.. and i don't blame him... We said if we play there again we're going to open with "Shakedown Street"

Wild night... we got paid... and one of the sheriffs is going to contact us for a gig this summer... :)

Wow, I'm glad you didn't let me know you were playing

We just danced the night away at the lodge before and after the torch light and fireworks

Then we headed over to our friends place at Katskills for ritas and jacuzzi

I'm toast today

Sucks for the bar owner...

Bar just changed hands for a long time owner to some new guys...

lots of people left and went to the only other bar that hosts live music..

tough to run a business sometimes around these parts..

Gotta love it when the new guy pisses someone off. My first thought would be "shakedown", too.

That was my thought....someone didn't get sufficiently greased.

Ya never know... the other hypothesis was a competing bar called it in...

But the fact that there were so so many cops there makes me believe it was planned well in advance..

This is not the first incident in that area where I've heard local and state authorities border on Gestapo status. Friends that went to Mt. Jam simply put it that the cops there are the worst. Granted if your going to do the crime, you better be willing to pay the fine.

That said, this sounds so over the top. In Stowe, stings were routinely done to enforce underage drinking laws, but these operations usually consisted of very attractive underage women that looked of legal age. If I was a patron there I would be PISSED to be lined up like that. As the bar owner I'd be even more pissed as he probably lost several hundred dollars if not more in profits by that move.

Perhaps you should open up with

Shakedown Street > I Fought the Law

look for that to calm down this coming Mt Jam.. The cops were still recovering from the Disco Biscuits weekend the summer before... And that was simply a drug fest... the music was secondary.. there were reports of rapes and all kinds of bad stuff...

Everyone over-reacted after such an ugly scene.

Disco Biscuits????

What's that all about?

I would best describe them as tecno phish. Their shows are more like a rave than your typical 'jam' show. Because of that the crowd has a certain sketchy element to it with lots of hardcore drug use and when I say hardcore I mean needles and crap along those lines. Other than that, which certainly is a big turn off for me, their shows can be a lot of fun; loads of energy and impressive musicianship. The bass player is incredible.

Maybe the new owner hadn't paid off the sheriff yet? ;-)
Not sure what the politics are in the area in question, but having done some DJ gigs in the Boston area and gotten somewhat involved with the night club scene, you would be amazed what some establishments can get away with by greasing the wheels. Tough business in the city, I doubt it is much easier in the hills either, just different pressures and what not.
