They had the $99 pass a few years back for the mini park with criushed ice. That topic was widely talked about. I know they went with a limited opertaion package this year, Its only $99. This is the place I went to when I got back into the sport regularly. Sounds like a need for cash quick. I hope it works.

I'm considering it simply because I'll be living near coastal NH next winter. It does seem like a quick need for cash, which worries me. That said, I'm sure I could keep myself entertained there for 5 or 6 days next season. That's worth $99 to me. I wouldn't want to spend the whole season skiing there and will be spreading the er um lack of wealth around through tickets purchased through Ace, but this is nice little option to complement that.

Assuming that they open, and get enough natural snow, you can't really lose...it is a decent place to ski and has some interesting terrain and never a crowd. But it is a risky proposition, considering that they just didn't even bother to open in 2006-2007 and made the announcement literally days before they were slated to open.

So you get what you pay for...and caveat emptor is all I can really say....

If they pull the same stunt and choose not to open next year, I'd hope they'd offer a refund. I would think they'd have to.

even if they opened only on weekends I'd be cool with it. I'm mainly considering it as an inexpensive option for crowded vacation weekends where my vouchers to Vermont mountains will probably be blacked out. Heck, even if I only got in 4 days there it would be a good deal

That is kind of unfair. They did have the issue with not getting the summit double running until, what... mid to late January or so? But their season length is comparable to other similar mountains such as Black. Obviously this is a need of cash issue but there are no signs they will not open next season.

you live sooo close you must be a little tempted. I would swipe one at that price just to have somewhere to go on holiday weeks and powder days.

Not really tempted at all. Tenney is a pretty tame mountain and annual snow fall is pretty low. Some trees but nothing to write home about. Powder days draw me to places with good terrain. I would rather have a lot of competition and only ski powder for a few hours on good terrain versus not much competition on three expert trails and a few short glades. Not my cup of tea.

It is pretty tame indeed. The chair is also real slow although that doesn't really bother me. I suppose if the snow was deep there is some flat runout i think near the top. It's been many years since i've been there.

Cough, cough.

I think forgetting about the 2006-2007 season is what is "unfair." How do you think the skiers and riders who had paid for a pass that season felt (they did get their money back, but still...)? And how do you feel the racing programs who were homeless in December felt? The employees? Do you think that they will forget what happened? No, of course not. As to length of season: 2006-2007 was zero. The management gave people a week's notice in December 2006. Not good at all.

And the fact that the double (or more than 1/2 of the skiable terrain) was not open for the entire first month of this season doesn't make things better IMHO.

Any season pass is a gamble, but I think given the history here, the risk is much more here. I think there is legitimate reason to be concerned given the history of the resort. I wish that they could get on more solid footing...but they have a lot of ground to recover.

I feel the same way. Good snow usually finds me looking for superior terrain. I'm looking at this purchase as more of a 'fall back' affordable option. I'm a 20-25 day a year skier that lacks the flexibility in my work life to just take off when the powder comes. So, because of this inevitably half my days are out just skiing mainly for exercise and a 'fix' because on the day I'm available to go, the conditions don't warrant a 2+ hour drive at a high ticket cost.

I haven't skied Tenney since High School and don't remember much about the place. It will be just about the closest place of substance to where I'll be living (Dover area). Well it, Loon, Pats, Sunapee, Crotched or Gunstock are all about the same distance give or take fifteen minutes. None of those other areas appeal to me enough to shell out the extra cash as my 'fall back' mountain nor do I want to deal with crowds.

Given the parameters of what I'm looking for, I think Tenney at $99 will suit my needs quite well for the 8-10 days that I'll go there.

I will be interested if they make you sign a waiver or something saying "if we don't open it is not out fault," or something like that.

On a positive note, again, $99 buys you 1.2 days or so at Stowe  So assuming that things go as planned, I look forward to pics and TR's from Tenney.

Dover huh?

You will be suprised how close the MWV is. Attitash was maybe 1hr 10 min for me, wildcat maybe 90 minutes. Pretty cool town, choose your hood wisely.

well, Newmarket specifically. I say Dover as few have heard of Newmarket. MWV will definitely be a close option as well and I'm sure I'll get in eight or so days between Wildcat and Black.

I honestly hadn't planned on getting a pass at all, just going with my ski club vouchers and heading all over the place with a focus on at least 6 days in Northern VT. That said, I look at that price tag and think to myself, ten days out are essentially just getting exercise and going through the motions as the conditions aren't all that great. If it was $150, I probably wouldn't be posting in this thread or considering it. At $99 though, it fills that need of mine quite well.

So...I'll roll the dice Thursday morning, report back on any waivers I am asked of and hopefully have some good times up there next winter with trip reprots

Sure, there is history of the resort not opening during a transition management year (and past troubles as well) but there is nothing to suggest they would not open next year at this point. No more so than any other struggling mid-sized ski area. Seems like the decision not to open last year was a bad managerial decision during a transition year and I would not apply that decision to future performance. The tough state of mid-sized areas in general is a big concern but I worry about some areas opening every year. Big difference between a caveat emptor and a snide remark suggesting the area might only open for a day or two. Perhaps my "unfair" statement was more in regards to tone than content.

Not renewing my S-O-S pass, so I may jump on it for $99. Will be a good half day for solo outings.
