Powder Mountain closed the weekend of April 12th with over a 100" base. Two weeks ago I headed out for a weekend of riding and hiking. A group of six of us rode in 'powder country' using a truck for some lazy self shuttling. I got 15 powder country runs in...more then a typical day when the resort is open!

Our chariot (better then the powmow bus):

The next day I hiked James from the parking lot and got a nice ride. Decent corn/slush but a little sloppy because it didn't get below 40 overnight. No action pics as I was alone but here is a nice view of the hike:

Going back for more turns June 6th...

Its pretty low elevation, but the north facing ridges were holding snow pretty well. That first ravine skiers right still had great coverage. Probably not skiable at this point, but pretty darn good for mid-May.

The best part was that the new president of powder mountain saw us and told us just to stick together and be careful...didn't give us any flack about being up there (surprising because they came down hard on self shuttling during the season).

I've seen them get pretty pissed of at "theft of service" for the self shuttlers during regular season as well.. Who can blame them... they got a good thing going there...

Totally agree, though some passholders get pretty self righteous about it (cause they paid for their pass anyway, blah blah blah) but the reality is that it's pretty dangerous to have trucks stopping and turning around on that road in mid-winter conditions. The only thing that I take issue with is that they really cracked down on hitching rides from lower then the pick-up point. In a good year, like this year, there are some amazing shots that spit you out much lower then the shuttle pick up...and walking back on a powder day sucks!
