Ad Blocker effects certain drop down layerings, especially when flash animation is involved, which could be the problem if you use Ad Block Plus or some other similar add on.

Nah...I'm still in the testing phase before I install any ad ons.

Maybe others can see if they have this problem. Anyone with OSX care to take a look at the drop-down menus here and let me know if they have a similar problem? It's the drop-down for price and such on the map. Actually...maybe it doesn't work on other operating systems as well.

You might have other problems if it takes you 15 mins to start.

SAC tracker plug-in doesn't work with FF3.

15 minutes may have been a slight exageration.
I did downlaod 3 last night, and it opens up much faster. Then I went to bed.

is that big of a difference? I really didn't read too much about it. I'm a pretty basic browser guy anyway...not too many add-ons etc. just don't want it to be stable, fast and safe as far as malware, pop-ups etc.

Better memory usage, for one. Maybe faster, not sure. The new url bar is very cool.

I just downloaded it and it seems to be much faster to me.

Most of my add-ons weren't compatible, but I did find a compatible version of my most used, Tab Mix Plus, on the author's website.

I agree with this statement. I have been using Firefox 3 for a day now. No problems. All good.

I don't like the new address bar one bit. When I upgrade to FF3, I will probably look for an extension to revert it back to its original look if that feature is not built into the browser.

How much have you used FF3? You mentioned before that you are still using FF2? Personal opinion, of course, but I love the address bar. The way it searches within previous URLs, your history, and your bookmarks (I think) is very cool and makes it so easy to get to sites you visit often or have visited recently. The updated star icon to the right of the address bar for adding and removing a site from your bookmarks is also convenient. What don't you like about it?

On my personal computer, yes. I installed FF3 on S's computer (should have asked before I did that, oops  ) so I have been able to try out some of the new features. I like that the address bar does a smart search but I wish it did the URL only instead of one like for the URL and the other line for the name. I don't like the star rating thing either, lame. Having the icon in the URL drop down is nice but the list is cluttered due to two lines, larger text, and the site name (which is often not descriptive depending upon what the web master did with the title tag).

The worst though is the back/forward buttons with the single drop down box. I like the idea of a bigger back button, not many people use the forward button much. But I like drop down boxes on both buttons. And I like the backward drop down box attached to the back button, not to the right of the forward button.

The star in the bar is not a star-rating system, it is for adding/removing bookmarks. If the star is solid yellow, that means the site is bookmarked. The the star is an outline, it is not bookmarked. You can click a hollow star to add a bookmark or click a solid star to remove the bookmark or move the bookmark to a different folder. I think it's fantastic.

As for the back-forward, just a matter of preference. I generally use the keyboard to go back and forward (ctrl + alt + left/right), so it doesn't affect me much. I think overall it's better, though, the way it bolds the site you are currently at. Also, sometimes the back/forward sequence isn't very clean if you have some backs and forwards within
a browsing session. With a single drop dwon you have to think less. With regard to your comment about it being a "backward drop down box", though, I want to point out that it is not a backward drop down box, but a back-and-foward drop down box.. It goes both directions at once. It is different though so I can see why some might not like it.

I can see why you would feel the address bar drop down takes up too much space, but I like it a lot.

I guess a lot of it comes down to intuition then. And also a huge dose of being used to certain standards. Having the star being a bookmarking system makes absolutely no sense. Stars have almost universally become used as rating in the web 2.0 days. Doesn't MSIE use a star icon for favorites or something? That makes it even less sense to me that FF is using a MSIE icon. I just use Menu > Bookmarks to bookmark it and manage bookmarks. Doesn't make much sense to use the address bar for this type of thing. I rarely drop down the address bar any ways, so pretty much a moot point, but it is kind of annoying to me when I do drop it down.

The forward/backward drop down seems really awkward and non-intuitive to me. Essentially, I probably will care less about many of these changes once I skin it with the FF1 theme. I use arrows a lot for forward and backward when I am keyboard flying, but I am mousing it more often than not still.

Lots of personal preference but I was surprised to see so many new bells and whistles not to my liking. Once I can ensure a theme will cover up or an add on will allow customization, I'll up to 3.

Maybe others can see if they have this problem. Anyone with OSX

Yup, I see it, too. The pulldowns look like thin horizontal lines. But it's not Firefox's fault. Look at the page source, and see that the 'select' form element, which is the pulldown, is explicitly set that way:

style="height:1px;"

It's existed since last February, actually. Get Oldbar.
Sweet. I notice that it still includes the stars and when you click on the "icon" to the left of the URL, it still pops up with a security box instead of highlighting the URL. I also reskinned FF3 with a FF2 theme but unfortunately, the back/forward/drop down buttons are all linked together so there is no way to rearrange the interface.

At this point, I am very much of the opinion that I will not be upgrading and S has requested that I return her browser to FF2 if I can not remove the new GUI aspects that neither of us prefer.

Using it now, & am pleased. Unfortunately, on my home machine it crashes consistently within 30 seconds of opening. The only difference is one machine runs AVG 8x & my home runs AVG 7x; the one running AVG 8 also runs Acrobat 5, while the my home machine runs Acrobat 8. I had to find an old version of FF to re-install on my home machine. I want to blame it on Acrobat... haven't been happy with any of their products since Acrobat 5.
