Pants for hiking?

What kind of pants do you guys wear on fall hikes? All of my hiking experience has been in shorts. I'm probably going to hike Loon tomorrow (pick up my ski pass while I'm there), but I can't decide what the best course of action would be for pants... I think I'd be too cold with shorts.

Convertible pants. You know, the ones that are long, but you can zip off the bottoms to make them short

+1 , just make sure they're Poly and not cotton.
