IIRC The Cat was the first eastern resort to open for daily operations last year as well. Nice job!

I hear Sugar isn't a bad little mountain actually

Sugar has 1200' of vertical, so that's not too bad. My friend has told me over the years that there are a lot of people who ski and ride down south, and that more and more get interested every year! Cataloochee has 740' of vertical, link to more info on southern areas:

I worked and skied at Snowshoe, WV for a season. They have a legit 1500 vert on two runs also got more snow than most of New England. I think they're top 5 on the east coast for skier visits too, so I hear what you're saying about the sport being popular in the south.

Go there to party

skiing is secondary. I'm not sure what it's like at other Mid-Atlantic areas, but I spend considerable time at Snowshoe, Wisp and Seven Springs. Yes people skied there, but they mainly went there to party.

Jose Cuervo weekend at Snowshoe is beyond compare. The one large night club, which had a capacity of about 500 people had lines waiting to get in all day from 10AM until 2AM that weekend and we did over sixty grand in liquor sales. stupid crazy drunken debauchery Maybe its the Apres skiing that gave it the Killington of the South name you heard...it certainly wasn't the terrain, though like Killington, Snowshoe is bigger than anything else in the area by a long shot.

60K in liqour sales?!? Wow, now that's some sales and a party! Actually, I have heard that it is a great place to party after the trails. So, how many bartenders, bar backs and bouncers were on that weekend? Must've been a good workout and good loot!

On busy nights we'd basically have 5/6 bartenders and 2 satellite beers stations. You really didn't need more than that as the capacity was 500. The guys were SLAMMED for 14 hours straight, but a decent bartender can handle 75 or so people drinking heavily if those people aren't ordering martini and other multi step drinks. They basically were just pouring shots of Tequila and pre made frozen margs. Each of them worked opening to close and made a little over two grand. Kind of depressing being a manager that night watching the guys take home more in a day then I did in three weeks. Then again, they'd get laid off for about four months out of the year when I still had a job.

60,000 thats all for a whole weekend. that really seems low to me. even if you turn the place over twice at 40 a head for drinks thats 40,000 a day 80 for the weekend. in that time frame you should be able to turn that place over 4 maybe 5 times. where they giving the drinks away for pennies.

sorry about that rant. i just went into biz mode.

60 Grand for the one Saturday. This is also the south and five years ago where/when drinks were cheap, pretty much $5. I bet it averaged around $25 a head. Most people were pretty effed up the moment they walked through the door from partying in their condos and out on the slopes with flasks, squirt guns full of tequila shooting into each others mouths, even some hardcores straight up skiing with bottles of booze.
