Thanks to Megatron and Harvery on the Gore/WF boards.

Copy and pasted this thread over here, we could use the help

Guy/Girls, Regulars and Lurkers - I NEED YOU.

There is a rumor out there that Gore is considering charging $10 a car this year to park.

(Can you charge to park on State Land?)

Let's put our thoughts here on this one, so Mgmt can see what we think. Keep it civil.

For me this is an added $400 to the cost of a pass, after I have already paid, and I can't get my money back. I may try.

I want GRASS ROOTS ACTIVISM.

Most ski areas out west charge for parking..I'm actually surprised that everyplace..as far as I know in the east offers free parking..since it could be an added revenue source and other leisure attractions like sporting events and amusement parks charge for parking..If they do charge for parking at Gore..maybe they will sell a season pass for the parking lot..but as far as I know..this is just a rumor..

I don't believe that is true, based on the areas I've been to. There is always a "free" area, it's just a bit of a walk. You know, like Waterville Valley!

"Sorry Chris……this somehow went to our junkmail box and I am now just getting it. Thank you for sending along your thoughts.

Mike Pratt GM at Gore can address some of your concerns…..its going to be a great season. The burnt Ridge lift is a real smooth ride.

Regards

That's what I figured it'd be . . .

Still BS.

Paying for parking is crap . . . It should be the early bird getting the worm, not the rich bird.

Personally, I don't care that I have to walk an extra 50 / 100 ft. If it means the mountain can get some revenue from that rather than bumping the price of my pass, more power to them.

You can buy a premium parking spot at WA for the season. It's really not much better than I can do in the evenings. Weekends are another story, but I won't go on the weekend.

I am sure if they are thinking of something like that it would be VIP lot. Whiteface does it. I think others do.

Doesn't/Didn't Mt Snow have paid valet parking at the main lodge? I'm not comfortable with leaving my car and keys to the responsibility of some parking lot kid at a ski area.

Gore's parking can be pretty crazy on a busy weekend. Sometimes cars are along the access road almost all the way down to Peaceful Valley Rd-easily a mile from the base lodge. The shuttle does run up and down the road to accomodate people, though.

Just go to Stowe where you can park in the heated underground garage and have your skis valeted to you ;) I hope they shine my boots too. Let's see, I'll spot one G for the garage attendant, and another G for the valet, that's fairly reasonable. A nice white tablecloth breakfast of ham, eggs and coffee for $35. I'm treated well, I think I'll buy a $4M cottage to use for one week a year, since it's getting a pain to fork out $2K a night for just a room... Boy, they treat me nice here. Wonder if I should ski today??

50-100 feet would be fine . . .

The two parking lots they're talking about quaranteening @ Gore would add about 500 feet to the walk . . . Or 5 football fields . . .

And I, for one, would rather they bump up the pass price once at the beginning of the year than basically impose a usage tax every time I go to the mountain.

That's a lot of parking to quarantine... do they think there's that much demand for it? I bet when they find out there isn't they'll bump back what they're reserving for it.... or they should anyway...

SR has the first two or three rows at Barker set up for 'preferred' parking... which only adds 50-100 ft to the walk, and after 11, whatever hasn't been used by the 'preferred' parkers is fair game... I think it's a workable compromise...

Just a point... 500 feet is a less than 2 football fields... counting end zones, football fields are 360 feet (120 yards) long... I'm sure you meant yards somewhere and not feet, but being a nitpicker I thought I'd point it out...:lol::lol:

Never having been to Gore, I'll have to trust you on the parking arrangements as I have no clue what they're like. Hopefully it will get resolved in a way that is a compromise and keeps most people happy.

that's way more paid space than I've ever seen at the Tahoe resorts. It's a grand experiment this year of supply and demand. Remember, if you're at the end of the second football field and have to walk two football fields, was it really worth the price????
