came across a cheap pair of skis that interest me. they are cheap because the tails are starting to delaminate. is it possible to repair something like this yourself? i'm not looking to return them to "like new" condition just want to get some mileage out of them as a second pair of skis for hard pack days.

not going to spend more than $50 on these but don't want to toss the $$ out the window either.

Actually that's very important.

I believe 5 stars are wood core, which means epoxy won't eat through (Foam core is another story). I would clean out the inside of the delam as much as possible. (Oyster Knife or Ice Pick) Get so SLOW SETTING epoxy and c-clamp them up in the boiler room for a few days.

You'll want an epoxy similar to the hysol on this page. (Scroll down)

I bet because it's in the tail it will stay glued better than the middle.

Volkl 5-stars do have a WoodCore  as do most Volkl skis and the delamination in the tail is most likely only the top skin and easily repairable however check to make sure the ski is not bent as this might be the cause of the delam!

FYI, bent skis don't turn well at all!

Good...I believe that those are adjustable to your BSL without redrilling. I'll feel better when Hawkshot confirms. He's held my hand before on binding adjustment.

If it is a system it can be done no drilling. I Was not a dealer of Vokle when the 5-star was the current model, and it has been way too long of a day to think straight, but I am pretty sure it is a simple adjustment.

Let us know how it works out Gary. Sounds like it should be fairly simple to fix.
