Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown

Conditions: PP, fresh cord, bumps, little bit of ice

Trip Report: quick report on my quick trip to Ski Sundown.

Just wanted to get out for a quick visit tonight since it was the only night i could go this week. Skied from 6:00 to 7:30. Skied Temptor over and over with one exception when it was roped off.

Still at least 3 good lines from the top of Temptor to the kicker area. After that it gets a little messy. I liked the left most line the best as it was the easiest of the 3.

I wasn't skiing well tonight, in the backseat the whole time. My toes are killing me from being jammed forward.

Saw Greg walking in the lodge while i was booting up but he didn't come my way and i didn't see him as i went out.

I think I saw you once at the top, but maybe not since you left at 7:30, Gary.

I was there from about 7:20-9:20PM. Beautiful snow on Canyon and Nor'Easter; soft and powdery. Must have been groomed right before I got there. But I was in a major funk tonight and couldn't empty my mind enough to enjoy the conditions. I had a few great runs but a lot of the time, I was just too distracted. There was a large group of Ski Patrolers practicing bringing down sleds on Nor'Easter, Temptor, and the Ex bumps; I stayed out of the Ex bumps tonight. Combine that with the groups of ski racers who weren't skiing and the large group of instructors that came up behind me on Canyon (I swear, there were at least 20 of them!), and the place was hopping. Busiest I've seen it on a Tuesday and I used to work Tuesday nights last year; they were great because they were dead and I always got out early to ski. Heck, I had a hard time finding a parking spot.

Anyway, it should have been a great night but it wasn't. I'm just too preoccupied right now, I guess...

Quick piss stop.

I didn't get out until after 9:40 so I only took two runs. Major technical difficulties with the racing tonight as some of you might have heard. Bumps were great though. The upper lines on Temptor are sa-weeeet still. Below the kicker, they're still too spaced out. Snow was great though.

So it's your fault so many had to redo their runs?

No. The starting wand on one of the courses was working only intermittently, at best. We only got through one round of races. There is normally two. I felt for the starter, Bob. Super nice kid and he was taking some heat, but stayed cool through it all.

You always seem to attract crowds on the hill.

Since I have probably skied more than half my days with Carrie I have noticed that I will take off down the hill and no one is in sight, then I will get to the top of lower Ex and stop to wait up and when I turn around she is usually mixed into a group of 100 people coming down, have no idea where they all come:p

It's what I do. ;) I don't think Brian believes me about the groups. It's one thing to have your regular crowds; it's another to attract large groups of people who suddenly surround you. Guess I'm not skiing fast enough.
