Essex was out of this world, tons of snow. Summit was skiing great and hardly anyone was skiing it. For a MLK Sat. the place was empty.

Trail pick of the day was Upper and Lower Mack, guns where blasting beautiful light man a made on Upper, then when you got down to lower nice soft bumps. I skied it a bunch of times.

Guns where blasting all over.

Lots of excitement with the skier cross. I got to slip the course, it’s awesome. It’s so much better having it on Lower Valley then Boreen. So many good places to see it even if you’re on a lift line or skiing by.

Lookout is doing the job spreading people out. Skied the Wil once today and it was in good shape.

I heard snowmaking to start on Lookout Below very soon.

I saw Daron Rahlves in the lounge playing Wii ski with other competitors against kids in a skier cross promotion.

I’m jazzed, today was freakin great. Can’t wait for tomorrow.

Rest of the weekend was pretty OK. The woods are filled in and ready to go.

approach to upper and lower mac were the trails of the weekend. It was a man made snow strorm in there all three days. Lots to bumps and whales to play on.

Monday was pretty much empty. People were down watching the skier cross. There were a couple of us riding the summit chair. cloudspin was full of fresh untracked.

they were making snow on lookout below Monday afternoon. That means next weekend Northway and lookout will be open. Two great diamond trail. Northway gets you access to the glades up top.

The town was buzzing this weekend with all the world class comps in town.

Is it Friday yet

on saturday afternoon and sunday some trails were getting skiied off. but, good cover everywhere. on the sides you can find consistent 6-12"+ of fluffy stuff. some parts of lookout was icy. like tjf and hpd said, approach - upper and lower mack were happening. awesome. overall a great weekend.

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear conditions are good up at Whiteface. I gotta get up there to sample the goods, hopefully sometime in Feb. I will definitely be up there at some point in March or April though.

Agree w/ other reports. Snow was great, crowds unbelievably small. I didn't get to maximize my time on the hill, as my buddy got us credentials for the races, the aerials, a private museum tour, a curling lesson, free brunches/lunches at the ski racing house, and a bobsled run. Also, each event, other than the bobsled, had an attached open bar, so that cut into ski time in more ways than one.

While we were skiing, we found the liftlines to be nonexistant, the cold to be not as bad as advertised, and the Summit diamonds to be the best of the weekend. Wilmington was skied of when we skied it; I wasn't in love but I can def see the potential for development over there.

I was disappointed in the lack of bumps. Mackenzie was bumped up, but not enough consistent lines for my taste. I was also disappointed in my ski legs. 4 hr sessions were enough to burn me out. Maybe I forgot how much vert. gets packed into a WF run.

Overall we had fun. Mirror Lake Inn is overated, imho.

Dang, I was happy with my free Smart Wool socks, bottle opener key chain and a dozen Nature Valley bars until I read this. ;-) You're the king of swag.

Dang! Monday was full on family ski day (not that that is a bad thing). I was hoping to steal away for a couple of runs Monday afternoon for myself, like I did Sunday, but it just never happened. I bet Cloudspin was nice, and I never did get into the woods, or my fave trail we talked about. Oh, well...there is always next time. Looking to plan a weekend in Feb, and another long weekend in March.

I did get over to Lower Skyward with my 10 yo daughter. She rocks. Props to the Whiteface kids programs. She skied Essex with her instructor on Sunday, bumps and all. Me thinks it's time to take her down Skyward from the summit. A right of passage.

This past weekend was the first time I ever saw bone fide moguls on Approach....they were making a ton of snow. Mountain was in great shape, and the weather was gorgeous.
