You can tell skiing is done for the season. You guy's have nothing better to do then pick apart a picture in what is otherwise an excellent ad. My take is that at the time Steve made this up last week that was the best picture of his daughter that he could find that fit the mode of the ad. I didn't even see the blood myself and don't think that it was put there on purpose.
...bathroom polls return next month...

Let me see if I can't shed a little light.

No photoshopping. She has blood on her coat from a fall and chocolate around her nose from burying it in small cone of Peanut Butter cup-possibly Moosetracks. And as far as 'real' goes, I'm her Dad, so let's say I'm a touch more qualified to be judging reality here.

Sorry you were, um, 'dismayed' by the ad. It appears it wasn't intended for you. No harm/foul.

steve.

cool to stay open, 100% agreed, but photoshopping in some fake blood on a kid's nose and adding a gross blood splotch to her sweater is pretty strange (to put it charitably)....at the very least, it isn't "real".

(not picking on you at all, eastcoast, i'm just really dismayed by their ad.)

The thought here was to show a kid, regardless of what they were doing, that gave off a sort of corps feel. I remember the day she fell of her bike and got banged up a bit. She didn't cry. I liked the sort of neutral expression on her face. No smile but not crying. Sort of ambivalent about her accident. I just liked the neutrality of the image. And suggesting that the blood was photoshopped to synch the font color is, and I'll go ahead and be charitable here, off. If I enjoyed exclamation points to the extent trailboss does, this is where I'd put one. Or 24.

maybe i'm missing something, but why, when talking up skiing one more weekend for the love of skiing and for the next generation, do they include a picture of a girl about to go mountain biking?

I didn't get the bike helmet, but I LOVE the concept behind the ad.

no reason to get offended, steve, i was making observations as a skier and member of this board, not about your daughter (i had no way of knowing who she was). just my opinion as a member of the public lucky enough to have money to spend on skiing. that being said, it's not an ad i would have put out, but, i'm not in the business and don't run a successful business, so what do i know? more power to you. i guess i'm just sad to see yet another season pass us by.

cbmp--i was more responding to your being 'really dismayed' by the ad than by any remark about my daughter (who, truthbetold can prob take care of herself better than I can..;) Not offended in the least, just letting you know the thinking that went into the postcard.

No worries mon amis. This stuff is subjective so I completely understand what floats one man's boat can just as easily sink another's. Boat that is. I just wanted to id where we were coming from. We do lots of stuff that doesn't make any sense. I'm sure we'll do more...

+ 1. No offense intended.

Overall it makes sense to use a non-skiing photo because Jay is pushing the off-season activities.

Not a bad thing to have the rep hear some feedback, re: marketing campaigns. This can be a great focus group.

....and it takes real balls to have your own daughter be the one in the ad. I don't know if I would do it (if I had a kid).

But then again, knowing Steve and JPR, they push the envelope quite often....and nothing ventured, nothing gained.
