“Over 3500 readers voted" ...as far as statistics goes here, this is not a very large survey population. I think I was one of the 3500 that voted from a link on a website.

There's also some things that don't make sense.

For instance, vermont top 4.

Killington
Jay
Stowe
Smugglers

But on the favorite top 10 in the NE, Killington #1 Smugglers #9, but Jay and Stowe are no where to be seen.

I was curious about the demographics of the readers of this magazine so I emailed the editor....here is his response.

Hi Phil,

Gee, guess I would have to put you in a room with the "readers" and all of you can slug it out.

Whether or not the readers are "clueless" I can't answer. The survey is like the All Star ballot and just suppose to be fun. And get Easterners interested in the East.

We don't cover snowmobiles. But a number of issues go to the Rangely area so that might explain the choice.

I suppose to be objective about the survey for a moment, if someone hasn't seen or skied an area, they are unlikely to vote for it.

The readers generally late 20's and up, single and married. About 1/2 are in ski clubs.

Please be sure that I have your address and it will be included in the mailing list.

I like you message and as the signature is only "Phil" will include it our letters column.

Great to hear from you.

Bill

Top 5 in order:

Mad River Glen

Killington/Jay Peak (tied for 2nd)

Sugarbush/Sugarloaf (tied for 3rd)

In alphabetical order, my top 5 would be:

Jay Peak, Killington, Mad River Valley, Stowe, Sugarloaf

If I had a vacation home in the Mad River Valley, I'd have passes at both Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. Mad River would probably be a midweek pass or a Saturday blackout pass.

This is the "advanced skier list". Depending on what you're looking for, I think you can make a good case for any of them as #1.

If you are looking for family mountains or if you can only ski the groomers, the list would contain Sunday River, Loon, and Okemo. Those are the kinds of places my mom skis. I wouldn't put her at any of the places on my list unescorted.

Well said. I've been wanting to make this point for the past 2 days, but couldn't figure out a coherent way to say it.

My mother's favorite ski resorts are Sunday River, Loon, and Stowe, and Stowe is only that high because of the village.
