A Bad Day of Skiing

is better then a good day at work. I’ve read that in a couple of posts today.

The first day that pops into my head for a bad day skiing when I took a day off work is when I went to Gore with Greg, JimG. and Bvibert.

It was the day after a major thaw/freeze. Everything on the mountain was froze solid or big ice chunks. The big fella almost killed himself on a count of them. Face first on the ice. The power went out once and we had to wait at the bottom of a lift for about 30 minutes while Bvibert was bleeding from the mouth. We had to drive home in a blinding snowstorm even though we never saw a flake while we where skiing.

That day sucked, but yeah it was better then going to work.

Even my suckiest day, which was the one I mentioned in the other thread at Mt. Snow, wasn't bad. I had some time to myself in the lodge to read. I got away for a bit. I may have had bad luck with the skiing, but it was still a good day.

Yup, that was probably my worst day skiing, but it was still way better than being at work.

I've had a couple days that were worse than being at work, where I was either just in pain or the conditions were just crap. Bu then, I actually do get a minimal amount of enjoyment/satisfaction out of my job.

I don't know..I've had some bad days of skiing and some good days at work..and I think the good days at work are better..

Never had a day of skiing I would call bad. A few windhold days waiting in long lines to ski the beginner slopes, but that just meant more time in the bar. And yup, that beats the best day of work.

1 bad day comes to mind that was far worse than going to work.

rainy day. started out headed to Magic, which was closed we found out as we drove. then to Bromely which was open, until we got there and they closed just as we were putting on our boots. then drove to Mt Snow. i realize some people love skiing in the rain, i'm not one of them. I would rather have been at work instead of taking the paid vacation day i took to ski for 2 hours and hating it.

I'd rather work on a bad day of skiing and take another day off when it's nice...

I'm an odd duck: I actually love going to work. That being said, the worst day I had (conditions wise) was when I climbed Mt. Washington in a rainstorm then decided against going into Tux because you couldn't see anything. I ended up skiing down the Sherburne in a rain soaked mess. I was cold, tired, very wet and half-blind but I still sat in the lodge thinking about doing one more run!

I have had some really bad days of skiing and some really good days at work. So I have never bought that saying. A marginal day of skiing is usually better than a good day at work. I think you really have to hate your job or not get enough quality snow conditions and have low expectations to think a really bad day skiing is better than a good day at work. Am I the only one that leaves work with a spring in his step at least 20% of the time and euphoric a few days a year?

I'm not a fan of work. I have a decent job, too. I get to be outside, I never really have to interact with that many people, and I'm pretty good at what I do. But if I won the lottery tomorrow, there might be lots of bad skiing days in my future, but there would be no good days at work, no days at work at all, actually (unless I got bored and wanted to teach skiing as a way to keep myself busy on my epic world tour of ski areas - but then I guess those would be ski days).

I usually ask myself, "which would I rather get up in the morning early for?" And it always seems easier to get up for skiing (regardless of conditions) than it does to get up for work.

if you can honestly say that your absolute worst day of skiing was better than your absolute best day at work, then either you're not skiing enough or you need a new job....

Yeah, I'd hit that right about now.

Bad for me usually means weather and/or cold. But usually a trip to the lodge or too can ease the pain.

My wife had a few bad days this season with her knee. The spring was rough because she had a difficult time pushing the heavy snow around. But still, she enjoyed being out on the slopes.

I'm with ya there, except for the part about having a job outside where I don't have to react with many people.

I don't have much trouble getting up extremely early for skiing, but for work I usually have trouble getting there for 8am.

I can honestly say this, though I will admit that I am in the wrong line of work. However, I can also honestly say I have never had a bad day of skiing. I make the most out of every ski day and ALWAYS have fun. It really doesn't matter the conditions or weather, if I am sliding on snow, I am in me element and happy. Even windhold days I may end up spending most of my time in the bar, but that is fun, and work is never fun.

I can honestly say this, though I will admit that I am in the wrong line of work. However, I can also honestly say I have never had a bad day of skiing. I make the most out of every ski day and ALWAYS have fun. It really doesn't matter the conditions or weather, if I am sliding on snow, I am in me element and happy. Even windhold days I may end up spending most of my time in the bar, but that is fun, and work is never fun.

Any day out in the open is better than a day at work.
