Shameless play off the worst line thread here.

Best line for me was back in January, 2002. I was renting some demos one snowy morning at Solitude whilst on a short trip to ski with some buddies in UT. It was deep and coming down hard with no letup in sight. I was trying to decide what boards I wanted to try when my friend spat out, " Just get the fattest ones they have." I immediately saw the logic therein and followed his advice.

Rudy: You people... stay out of our way. You may ski on zis side OR on zat side, but stay out of zee meedle here!

Dan O'Callahan: Hey, Rudy, you can kiss my ass. Not on zis side and not on zat side, but right in zee meedle!

This is a story told to me by Jeff, who owns a company I frequently hire as a subcontractor.

Jeff relays the story that a friend of his won lift tickets to Magic last year. Jeff's friend decided to use the tickets mid-week after a week of no measurable show. Jeff's friend went into the ski lodge a little after 9 AM, and discovered that there was no one inside. He went back outside and found an employee of the mountain. Jeff's friend asked "Are you open?" to which the employee replied "We are now".

About 20 years ago I was night skiing with 2 buddies. Riding a double chair I rode up the lift with a young teenager. The teenager was full of excitement and proceeds to tell me, "this is my first day skiing black diamonds and I am looking for jumps. " I wasn't sure what to say. I probably said good luck with that. When we got off the lift my buddies were already 200 feet down the trail and this young teenager took off in front of me. I was noticing he wasn't making any turns and now skiing completely out of control headed right for my friend who stopped on the side of the trail. The teenager found one of those jumps he was looking for and when he went past my friend he was over his head. The landing was really hard and a complete garage sale. We went over to him to see if he was ok and help gather up all the gear. The teenager said he was ok but he definitely had his bell rung. I told him I see you found that jump you were looking for. He looked at me and said, " I think I am going to take it easy now and go into the lodge and rest a bit."

Similar question was asked on SJ, and I will give the same answer on this one. Once showing property of one of the Rams Horn units at Loon Mountain, one of the family members (adult mind you), asked me, 'What about avalanches?' In a dead serious tone!

It was very difficult to answer without cracking up

"What's the BEST way down?"

Usually asked by a middle aged women in a one piece with matching everything. Always brings a smile to my face.

"mid cirque is now open for the season" heard at the top of the snowbird tram on the morning of a 2 foot dump, two days after their record snowfall for 24 hrs...58 inches (storm total of 6 feet). completely over the head...and it was Jan of '93 so my "powder" skis were my 207 GS boards. I'll spend the rest of my life looking to ski in snow that deep again.

I was at Castle Rock one sunny day and the bumps were perfect corn. As I was skating off to Middle earth an older woman with her 20 something daughter asked me if there was a groomed trail to ski down. Occaisonally Castle Rock gets groomed and this wasn't one of those days; everything had big, wonderful bumps of corn.

I really couldn't be helpful and explained "No, there isn't a groomed trail and the Castle Rock trail is your best option but it is all bumps. Look for a bailout on your right to get you back to groomers."

An instructor I know was teaching a beginner class at Hunter on a freezing cold day. One of the students asked her "why are we standing here in the cold. Why can't we move under the hearters?"

Puzzled she inquired what he meant - and

He pointed to the snow gun!

I read this in a magazine once . . .

(Guy looks down from a lift and notices a father lifting a rope to a closed trail so that his son can go under it and access the fresh powder)

Guy from chairlift: That's right son. Ropes are for the OTHER people!

Now that's hilarious!

I usually am in my own little world when skiing (got to love the ADD). However my girlfriend overheard someone doing the old "I hope it stops snowing" line while in the lift line out at Mt Hood Meadows this past winter on a 2 foot epic powder day. Some people just don't get it, but at least it meant that person was staying away from the untouched goods we were hitting all day long!

Wife to her clearly in over his head husband at the top of a black.

"If that little kid can do it then you can do it"

The little kid was my 5 year old daughter, that made it even better.
