Thule Box- Help

Came home tonight to see the wife's car in the garage with box on top!. I muttered WTF to myself since the kids were in my car? I see her standing next to it looking up.

First words out of her mouth are I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry, I am such an idiot (to which I agreed)
Anyways.
Anyone ever fix holes in a Thule box? If so how? I have 2 good sized cracks in the back of the box and realydon't want to buy a new one.

My new Thule box cracked a few years ago along the back seam (I'm not even sure how it happened). I took it to a local auto body shop, they filled it with some silicone, took off all the Thule badges and repainted it to match my car. It cost about $125 bucks, but it looks much nicer now.

my wife did the same thing...we had are thule box on top of our nissan Armada early season, she forgot, pulled into a parking garage...concrete vs plastic.....concrete won! it happens, was damaged too bad to fix, bought another...I wanted a YAK box because of the handle they have on theirs to turn and lock, but no one had it and i needed it quick for a trip....the Thule key to turn and lock and be difficult to turn and can snap..if you do need a new box, go wiht the Yak......

the new Thule keys are a lot nicer with the big black plastic ends on them.

I had a slab of Ice froma truck take back off my thule a coupleof years ago. I used black duct tape to cover the whole. Its biggie. I have to do a little repair job each year before I put it back on but it works fine.

Kinda funny what your wife did. Could just have easily been you so be nice

Agreed. You should also consider yourself lucky that the only damage was to the box. Try doing the same thing with two bikes on top of the car. Lots more to fix than a couple of cracks in some plastic, don't ask how I know...

We are laughing about it trust me, it could have EASILY been me, or avoided had I taken the thing off when we got home on Monday.

But when your wife calls herself an idiot it is hard not to take advantage and agree.

Duct Tape on the inside and some stickers on the outside seem to be the best route to "repair" it.

2 brand new mountain bikes into the concrete low overhang of a covered parking area. Luckily the racks took the brunt of the damage. One bike busted a few spokes in the rear wheel and the other just has some scrapes on the shifters. One brand new Thule Big Mouth carrier tray was completely trashed and the other (an older Thule carrier) was partially mangled, but still usable. This was on a Blazer with Yakima mounts and bars to the roof rack. The roof rack ripped completely off the roof and the Yakima mounts (predecessors to the current Low Riders) got partially mangled. All in all it could have been a lot worse, but it was quite a mess none the less.

I see a lot of Thule and Yakima ski coffins....I bought a Barrecrafter. I like the locking lugs that attach to my roof rack.

On or off...5 min.

I've had it since 01.

We were a couple of minute drive from home luckily (this happened while attempting to use the ATM :roll: ). My bike was, of course, the one with busted spokes, so I rode my wife's bike home to get my pick-up. At 6'4" riding my wife's size XS MTB wasn't the most comfortable ride, but it did the job.

Or backing your vehicle into the garage with 2 kayaks still attached. Luckily only dented the siding in two spots, and slid the roof rack forward on the roof. Siding is still dented and my father has never asked about it years later.
