Just got an email from Mt. Snow stating they are also to be open. $10.00 or 10 cans.

Also easier if your clientele is park rats. Snow can pull that off, I doubt Killington could.Lift served, jib session, ALL proceeds (cans and $$) going to the local food bank - NO unhappy loyal patrons (unlike their neighbors about an hour North). 9 Fan guns and a few overnight sessions of snowmaking down at the 1900-2000' level in Southern VT in Mid October - works for me!
Beginner Hill only or not, you can debate their "openness" all you want, but Mount Snow just seems to get it!

I'd also bet that *if* K blew a patch in say the Snowshed/Ramshead base are and set up a few boxes/rails/etc, that you'd be suprised at how many "park rats" would show up. Then they could spin it as they want - "didn't have quite enough time to make X miles of SUPERIOR QUALITY snow to open from them top, but we wanted to have some fun and get everybody ready for the rapidly approaching start of the '09-'10 ski season so we did this instead for now and are also doing it as a way to help out the local community" - would make a pretty nice PR shot/clip, especially if they had a few of those nice looking new Techno Alpin sled mounted fan guns in the background of the shot!
But Mt. Snow on the whole is one of the bigger mountains in the east for parks. If I was a park rat, Snow would be my first choice. If Killington copied Snow's approach, they wouldn't get anybody, because it's an hour further north than Mt. Snow. Even if it were free, the gas would cost more than the $10 ticket at Snow.Mount Snow has a much greater % of it's clientele that ISN'T park rats than is - and many of them are the parents of them. They now are aware that it's "game on" and that the management still, in these economic times, has the same aggressive snowmaking approach that they have the last 2 years, and that's a plus. Probably get a few local New England/Eastern NY TV spots out of it too.
The way that Mount Snow has now 3 seasons in a row successfully opened with a "quick" snowmaking effort in the beginner area with some park features is a sign to it's non park patrons like myself that llythe next decent snowmaking window, it's an all out fan gun assault to the top so I can arc some big 'ol GS turns!

Lift served is lift served. If I were a little closer I'd bring my 10 cans a ski a few runs.
I applaud Mount Snow for pulling this off!
