Your right, no one blew snow, and they barely blew any. They had enough to open a section for the rail jam, a scheduled event, that brings in some money. Its not like they covered the entire trail with snow, they made four or 5 piles barely a foot deep

I saw what they blew - it was way more then what you'd need for a rail jam...

A total waste...

Not a total waste, a solid effort by a ski resort to open early.

But damn, the day after thanksgiving may not be too enjoyable this year. There were only 3 runs open off the top last year but it was still fun due to the storm (you could ski anywhere). At this rate I don't know how many trails they will be able to get going, but definitely not many.

Seemed to make a few Belleayre homers from Jerze happy.... I guess thats good... for them...

But still... a total waste... why not just do a solid effort in Oct or Sept?!?!?

I want Bell to succeed and that means they need to do better with their resources... Not squander them on snowmaking before the weather is good...

Yea, not if your taxes were as high as us New Yorkers, there are people in my area paying upwards of $30k/yr property taxes!

Out of curiosity, what's the value of those homes?

Property tax and liquor are the two main sources of revenue in NH. Not having sales or income tax is very sweet. Property taxes can be high, but it's a fair trade off for me. I can't afford nor would I desire a McMansion, so it doesn't affect me all that much.

wow... what drama.. You guys from Jersey sure get passionate about spending our NY tax money... :)

I was talking about the snowmaking being a folly.. not the ski area... chill..

How about just spending tax dollars wisely and not making snow when it's almost guaranteed to melt before the lifts spin?

Just seems like a waste of tax $ when we really don't need it..

Its my money too. I work in NYC. My wife works in NJ and her income gets counted and taxed by NYS also. :uzi: I cannot vote in NYS - taxation without representation. When I day trip I ski Plattekill, Belleayre, or Hunter. I wish they all could expand so they would be more than day areas for me.

Beating the 'waste of tax $' drum like you have in this thread has become silly. You can look at any business plan and see things that are not cost effective by themselves. But in the context of the whole plan these 'loss leaders' might become important. Somebody has mentioned a rail jam event. It certainly does not seem like Belleayre was trying to blow base snow in order to open the whole mountain. They see the same weather reports we see.

If you want to complain about tax $ look at the $3.2 billion deficit in the NYS budget. Every elected official in Albany should be voted out of office. Belleare has a snowmaking budget. I am sure they will try to stick to it.

Well they certainly wasted a chunk of it...

I'd be pissed if I was a Belleayre "homer"... Last year they couldn't even get $ to make snow 100%... This year they squander it..

I really don't know why you're even debating this...? It's just a waste... A sad attempt to make some sort of statement that failed....

If you look at the picture they took... Theres WAAAAY more snow then a simple Rail Jam needs... WAAAAY more... Total waste...

I've seen successful rail jams using ice shavings from hockey rinks...

You could pul off a rail jam with one of those guns... Thats snowmaking to open a whole trail.... To be the first.... which failed...

This is hardly a debate. Either you did not read what I wrote or you do not understand what I wrote.

Let's assume the $3000 amount for snowmaking is correct( do you know the actual amount? I would guess that you do not). Do you know how much $ the rail jam generated? How about how much $ the rail jam will generate during the season? Marketing and promotion of businesses comes from many places.

If you do not want to see beyond they blew snow and it melted I cannot help you.

whatever Jerz.... I can see beyond it... And I see reservoirs filling with my tax $.. They blew snow to prove that they are the first and FAILED! Ane

I am a taxpayer that supports the mountain and I'm pissed..... It's my right...
There's nothing you can say(or surmise) to change..

Perception is everything... And many of us "locals" perceive this to be a folly and a waste of $....

Rockland county (border of NY and NJ) the houses use to be worth around $1m, now about $800K.

I cant find it. Last year they were allocated 5.5million. So would it be fair to assume 7 million this year?

Yep, got a second home in Jewett. Going to move as soon as I retire!

I'm actually eyeing up some land in Jewett...
I like there and Haines Falls a lot...
