considering Utah as the mountains are close to the airport. Any suggestions for an intermediate boarder? Lodging, we don't need anything fancy. Shuttle from the airport or rent a car? Any other suggestions? Planning on first week of Feb.[/I]

Salt Lake City offers just about everything. Plenty of good intermediate terrain at just about every mountain. Good transportation system if you don't want to rent a car. Even has some nightlife these days. Can't really go wrong there. I like Colorado too. Where ever you go, enjoy.

Seeing as how your from L.I. look into flying SouthWest out of Islip. No doubt you will have some sort of lay-over, but I saved a bunch of money on airfare going this route to Denver lastyear.

No baggage fees is a big plus too. Flying SW to SLC at the end of Feb. Usual transfer is in Chicago. No biggie unless the weather is bad.

I've been lucky enough my last 2 times to Utah on Southwest out of Providence to have my layover (both out and back) be in Vegas. Maybe any extra 45-50 minutes of total flying time, but I know that if I take off from Providence that I won't have any potential snow/connection issues at Midway. And worst coems to worse and there's actually a storm all the way down the the valley floor in SLC that prevents me from getting to SLC that day, I'M IN VEGAS :)

I'm flying out of Providence and the only layover options were Midway or Phoenix. The Phoenix flights seemed to be a lot longer so I went with Midway.
