exagerated GS turns!

I was skiing Wa today and kept running into this guy constantly doing trail width, slow Gs turns. He was a danger to himself and everyone around him. This was not an isolated incident. I see it all the time. How do these people fail to see the danger these trail width zig zagging turns present? I understand that the downhill skieer has the right of way, but these people make it near impossible to pass them if there is even a little trail traffic. I'll end the rant here. I just thought i'd mention it to see if anyone else witnesses this from time to time.

That's only OK if you're going at least 2 times as fast as the next fastest person. Otherwise it's far too dangerous.

He was going quite slow. There was no reason for this type of turn on Ralph's run today. There are only 3 trails open so it was a little congested. I saw him half a dozen times today. I hung back and watched him nearly take out 3 or 4 people one run. Jackass.

Was he potentially newer to the sport? I know when I was first learning, I felt much more comfortable making bigger turns than smaller. Which means I was always pretty tense because that's pretty difficult to do when there are other people on the trail. Maybe that was the case?

Not new

He had some experience. His form wasn't bad. He had nice equipment (Vokyl ac30 I think) and looked pretty stable. He was just cruising. Someone with his experience should know better. The time to cruise those wide sweeping turns was early that morning when the trail was bare. This was 11:00 and ski school, instructor training, and race team was happening on the trail all at once.

Ralph's is notorious for wanna be skiers showing off their fancy steps.....it's a family skiing trail, just slow down and enjoy the spectacle.

This drives me nuts too. Nothing wrong with some wide turns, but when skiers are darting from one side to the next it does create a hazard.

I've never been to Wa, but I agree with the post above that, if its a family or easier trail...those are kind of a freeforall. If the trail is somewhat more advanced, I believe you need to stay in your line more. Just MHO.

+1...that's why I don't go on Ralph's Run when there are other ways down.

When skiing on easier trails I know there will be side to side skiers, they have to have some way to control speed and not all of us can do short snappy turns. I tend to use more of the trail width but I try my best to watch for others and not cut anyone off.

IMHO the only way to pass someone like that is to aim straight for them. Sorta like NASCAR drivers do.

I love skiing big GS turns across the trail. I don't know how that guy was skiing, but my turns are pretty symmetrical and pretty consistent.

If you can't figure out how to pass someone like me, than that's your problem.
