The half pipe is all the way out on Lower Standard. Maybe they could harvest the very top of the half pipe to give some extra coverage to Crossover but that's about it. I think they pulled snow from the North Slope park (between the Double and the Quad) because Lower North Slope looked better yesterday than it did on Saturday. No idea about what may happen to the Tyro park.

How's the Glacier looking Geoff?

If it's an average April, it will make May 2nd. The pile is plenty big at the top. They'll have to mine snow from somewhere to be able to ski back to the lift. I fear the 2nd half of April is going to be pretty boring with only 1 lift.

This weather sucked. It's supposed to be 50F and freeze overnight, not 80F and stay mush overnight.

Just got the email. Cannon is closing tomorrow. This is really a crappy ending to a season.

It's now official. The mountain will close Sunday but given the ominous wording and the rain/warm temps expected this week, who knows how far they will make it.

From the Stowe Website:

They did close.I figured I needed to be there for the last day.Too quick a closing but 75 degree temps and sunny was a nice way to go out. It's about the least amount of snow I've ever seen them operate on.I ran out of snow a few times and had to walk.

dropping like flies. Can't ever recall so many areas closing this early due to lack of snow. must be the warmest March/April on record for New England. :(

When was the last year that the vast majority of ski areas (perhaps all the major ones, at least) closed due to lack of snow instead of lack of demand? I can not recall the last time any major ski area was forced to close due to not having enough snow to even connect a few basic runs to a lift.

Wasn't Sunday River and Killington the only places open Thanksgiving weekend?

I think Loon's decision to close is based almost as much on lack of skiers as lack of snow. I think the decision to close after Saturday was because the snow in some critical areas just can't be spread any thinner. The demand for skiing this past week was mostly from large (200+) British school groups who booked their ski trips well in advance. The non-group skiers had fewer than half those numbers and were equal parts pass holders and day ticket holders. I'd put the demand this year at or below previous year's early-mid Aprils.
