It's not great PR to announce a date, and then rescind it. They probably figure that May 2 is the latest date they can be fairly confident about.

Of course they always add "conditions permitting". However, they do have a ton of snow, and if mother nature is agreeable, they'd be fools not to stay open as late as possible after bringing best their whole Beast campaign.

The new Killington owners aren't exactly savvy about PR. I'd say it's 50/50 whether they run beyond May 2. These are ops people. They have to run through April since their early season pass deal expires on April 29th and they don't want to do anything to screw up that revenue.

Black NH can't make up their mind when they are closing.

From the looks of it this afternoon, they can ski a few trails off the triple this weekend with little tractor work. Tomorrow should provide decent temperatures to get the tractors on the trails without messing them up.

Sunday River is having a free ski day on its last day: April 19.

http://www.sundayriver.com/Events/Main/Ski_Mania.html

I find this to be surprising. I noticed on that page that they are advertising the lodging deals at the Loaf beginning the same day. Sugarloaf got a ton of snow in this latest round of reign, and of course some of the wet stuff, too. SR typically stays open for one less week than SL, but perhaps Boyne is trying to save some money (Shocking!) and giving SL two weeks of publicity. There are area at SR will hold snow for a long time this year.

It would be sweet if the Superstar Glacier remained open till late May, but it just aint gonna happen.

Looks like a marketing plan. The Loaf's ad materials all call it the "King of Spring." Perhaps Boyne wants to promote SR for early skiing, Loaf for late season. If SR does close on the 19th, I think we can earn some late season turns on Barker and Locke well into May.

The marketing plan worked on me! I already booked one of the $99 rooms at the Sugarloaf Hotel for Saturday, April 24th. I would prefer Sunday River stay open another week or so, but hard to complain when you can ski in October and potentially May on the Boyne Pass!

I am not happy about being closed a week earlier than last year, but I was pretty happy about skiing 3 weekends in October and can ski hopefully into May. I got a pretty good value out of my pass.

I will make some trips to the loaf.

Posted today for Mad River Glen

Our plan is to operate this weekend and then to close up for the early part of next week (the weather forecasts are looking a tad sketchy). The mountain will re-open on Thursday April 1 for Roll Back the Clock Day (Ski for only $3.50) and remain open through Easter Sunday which will be the last day of the 2010 ski season here at MRG!

Wachusett is closing tomorrow (Saturday). Midweek passholders still need to pay $10 to ski. I guess when you're this close to Boston, you have a license to squeeze every little bit from your customers. I don't think I'll be returning next year.

At Stowe, Spruce and the Gondi closed yesterday. Mansfield is still open. They haven't officially changed the 4/18 closing date but after spending the weekend up there, 4/11 is realistic......but barely. It's getting pretty scratchy up there. Today's report includes this ominous little nugget:

"Please Note: Some walking may be required and due to variable spring conditions, terrain off of the FourRunner Quad is for intermediate and expert skiers/riders only."

I was more surprised at what they are charging for a lift ticket today.

I had vouchers to burn on Saturday but when I went up to get my ticket, I inquired about the pricing and was told it was mid-winter. The ticket seller had that embarrassed look!

they are definitely going to need to move snow - bottom of liftline was fried by 2PM Saturday.

I forget which resort mentioned that they planned to harvest snow from their half-pipe.
