Best unknown area in east by a mile, Mont Sutton
On my list for this season!

My favorite "lesser" known areas in the east:
  • Burke, VT
  • Magic, VT
  • Saddleback, ME
  • Black, NH
  • Abram, ME

Of those, Black, Magic, and Saddleback have all gotten some press lately so maybe only Black and Abram would truly constitute lesser known areas.

How about Belleayre? It is not exactly unknown, but it is pretty quiet most of the time.
Plattekill can probably be considered more unknown

I can assure you, Sutton may be the BEST in the East. It is absolutely unbelievable. Great snow and the best glades I have skied in the East.

Don't know much abot the NY areas. I want to visit though. I know many great small areas in NY. Also Western NY gets great snow.

Sutton after a storm is unbelievable, but if it has not snowed in a while, it can be a bit of a drag. That being said, I am a 2 hour drive from Sutton; any morning where I see they have received 6 inches overnight, I am in my car right away. It is that good.

is it better than Orford, Owl's head and Bromont?

Got designs on a Townships long weekend one of these seasons.........

If you are going to the Eastern Townships, you can skip Bromont. Sutton, Owls Head and Orford are different but all fun places to ski. The layout of the three areas is very different. My preference was Sutton because of the trail layout it was easy to string together runs on various trails without traversing.

Yeah, Mont Sutton is on my list, along with Owl's Head. I hear about both every once in a while, but looking at pics and their brochures does tempt me. The only issue would be the border crossing. I'm sure it would not be a big deal....
