By 'on mountain', I mean within easy walking distance from the lifts. So, a village bar at a place like Stratton counts. A place like the Wobbly Barn at Killington would not.

Bullwinkles - Sugarloaf
Swig n Smelt - Saddleback (though it would be nice if they had a deck)
Barker Pub - Sunday River

Got to put a vote in for the Thirsty Camel in the base lodge at Camelback. The place rocks on a Saturday apres ski. Always a decent band and non skiers/boarders show up to take in on the action. Anne's my favorite winter time bartender. A great ski bar.

Used to haunt Hunter more then I do now and the bar in the base lodge was always a good time. Met some real interesting people in that place.

Up north I used to enjoy the Gristmill at Killington. I 'll be interested to see what thats like now. Also liked the Matterhorn at Stowe but niether of those are "walking distance".

Canyon Club at the bottom of BCC is a good time in Utah, again not a walk. Aspen was my all time favorite but I haven't been there in a long time now.

PS Want to add the Magic Mt Bar. Not the fanciest but a nice comfortable place.

Castlerock Pub is good. Things I don't like about it are that it's basically in the basement, it's kind of dark and there are no views of the slopes.

Even though I only get to ski Burke 3-4 days/year, the Bears Den lounge is my top mountain bar. Place just has the best vibe.

Camelbacks' bar is good when the bands don't suck and so is hunter's watering hole

Station Taproom at Mount Snow -12 really good (and new additions pretty much every week) craft brews on tap with most weeks more than 1/2 of them being 8% ABV or higher! :)

I really enjoy Grizzlies at Stratton. Good brews, good pizza, and a nice deck looking out onto the slopes to watch the cats get to work after a day of skiing.

Call me old fashioned but the bar in the middle of the Mt. Mansfield base lodge is just cool because it's there.

The Spruce bar is right in the middle of the lodge also but is way to fancy, don't fancy fancy

The Octagon bar on top of the forerunner ain't to shabby either (talk about views).

As far as an old fashion, classic ski bar, the Bear Den at Burke is original and almost historic. And as said previously it has a great vibe.

I've only been to this bar once and I have to agree this place just kills it.

My problem with the Barker pub at SR is it just doesn't feel like a bar to me. I prefer the Foggy Goggle, even though it's the main lodge catch-all spot. My weekday skier status likely affects my opinion here.

The pub at Wildcat is run down with crappy tables and chairs and I love it completely. It's like zero thought went into the place but it's location and the skier vibe is unsurpassed. Try hanging out on that deck in the spring and tell me you don't love Wildcat.

Bullwinkles at the Loaf is fantastic. Massive windows aimed right at the summit. Great vibe from the skiers and staff. In the spring they have rows of benches set up specifically, it seems, to catch sun.

Saddleback's bar is well thought out with amazing views and is a tough place to leave...maybe because I always go to Saddleback when it's really cold.

I was amazed at how much work went into Cannon's new bar. I've only been there once though and didn't get a good feel for the place.

Bretton Woods: like Barker at SR it doesn't feel like a bar. BW gets huge points though for letting you buy a beer there and you walk anywhere on that massive 2nd floor including 2 nice fireplaces and a great deck with views of Mt Washington and BW summit. That place is a brown bagger's dream if you always buy a beer at lunch.

Loon's Octogon bar gets points for the largest beer selection in the east by a long shot.

My favorite is probably Barker Pub. HSA on draught, affordable prices, great bartenders, a deck overlooking the slopes, and my beer is usually poured before I even get to the bar. Not much to look at though, and I have to say Saddleback's bar is beautiful.

-Widowmaker @ Sugarloaf (although bullwinkles and Bag up there too)
-I like Pico's bar
-Cannon's new bar is great

Notable mention - Burke's, Saddleback, Loon's Babes and Woodstock station (not on mountain). Free popcorn or peanuts always a bonus...

Any where I can have a burger grilled on the deck with a beer during the spring. I dig MRG's deck for that reason but lots of decks are great.

Let's face it... is there a bad mountain bar in the east? (Well, there used to be at Jay... but now they have one of the best around). There are basically two categories of mountain bars: great and good. I can think of a ton in the former category and very few in the latter.

General Starks Pub at MRG and the Bag at the Loaf for the vibe. Widow Maker for the view. Honorable mention to the cozy bar at Killington Peak. I expect the new Roaring Brook bar at the base of Superstar will set a new standard, however.
