Anyone else go last night? Any thoughts? Here's my very brief review...

It really wasn't that good. I usually prefer the club venues vs theater venues for these shows but I figured it would be really cool in IMAX. Unfortunately, although it was at the IMAX it wasn't an IMAX movie. Instead it was just a standard projection that seemed lost on the giant IMAX screen. The footage was good but pretty standard. In past years there's always been at least one segment that raises the bar for coming years. This time it was just more of the same over and over. TGR seems to becoming more Warren Miller-ish. There was a weak plot (hey we're on the road) with a drab Sam Elliot-ish narration.

The crowd was comatose. There was barely a peep throughout the whole show. It was hard to tell if the lack of inspiration from the film made the crowd quiet.....or if the quiet crowd made the film seem uninspiring. At least if it had been at a club you could get a beer and walk around to avoid boredom.

They've quit doing the mid-movie intermission with give-aways and pep-rally. So it was just one continuous too-long movie. At the end everyone just shuffled out without seeming very stoked up.

I gave up on Warren Miller a few years ago in favor of TGR. Now I guess I'm done with them too. Bring on MEATHEADS!

I saw it at Wachusett on just a portable movie screen. Felt the same way about the flick, though we did have a brief intermission and my girlfriend won a TGR trucker hat ...

I'm going to go see the Warren Miller flick in Worcester. The films are hit and miss these days, but the crowd that turns out for them is still good and it's a fun time. Plus it's an excuse to go out and drink some beers first!

Going to the Warren Miller movie next Wednesday. I haven't gone the last few years. The vouchers are always the same. The only pass usable to me was Windham. All the others are for places west of me. If I have to travel that far, I'd rather pay and go north and east. I can ski Whiteface for $39 with my season pass at Greek Peak. This year they're offering a weekday pass to Sugarbush. This is great, I've never been, and have heard good things about it.

The boys from Meathead Films were at Jay last Spring when I was there. They were decked out in day-glo, skiing the soft bumps with straight skis. Don't know if that footage made it into their films.

I went to see the Warren Miller flick last night at the Lebanon Opera House. One word...

Meh.

The real excitement was the knucklehead MC trying to throw a frisbee into the balcony. He ended up hitting a chandelier which resulted in shrapnel falling on some of the folks below :-o Anyway, the Tuck's feature with Chris Davenport and Hugo Harrison was kind of cool. Nice to see the NE get some coverage in a big-name film again.

I saw "One for the Road" at Wachusett too, but the early showing. I'd say the stoke meter wasn't very high on that one. Fortunately there was plenty of beer at hand. The crowd tried to get a little fired up with some random hoots, but generally the movie seemed like the same old stunts we've all seen before, like extreme stuff most people will never do, or silly kid stuff like jumping off buildings. The only thing that got the crowd going a little was an ocassional shot of a do-able looking run, that unexpectedly got a little hairy. But yeah, the door prize drawings were more exciting than the movie. Can't believe I didn't win any of them. :)

Sad to hear it wasn't that good. I got into TGR after last years flick, Light the Wick which I thought was pretty good.

Powderwhores are where it's at in my opinion as a free-healer.......

I went last week and I agree. I haven't been a huge TGR fan for a few years now. They're still better than Warren Miller though. There was way to much slo-motion this year. I much rather see big mountain lines in real speed.

MSP films is still by far the BEST in my opinioin!!! Attack of La Nina was outstanding and really got me pumped up for winter!

I thought the soundtrack was pretty good! the footage was better than WM's too. I went to both movies the same night, mostly in for the vouchers, beer, and stoke....

I agree about the crowd, I let out a few yells for sure.... so you must have at least heard me :)

It was kinda like a pub crawl, with beers, vouchers and ski flicks at each bar... if there was a 3rd show -- I would have considered it! :)

Yeah the soundtrack was decent. Although I have a bone to pick there too. Near the end they used the song "Sail" by AWOLnation. An epic ski song if ever there was one. Unfortunately YouTube and Vimeo are chock full of homemade ski videos using that song that are actually WAY better than TGR's Clip, Most notably this one, play it LOUD......
