And this is why even Alta has now put safety bars on their lifts..and they are terrible..worse than ours..handles that come down between everyones legs.I was on the lift with 3 others when one of them puts the bar down..older guy at the end was like WTF..we don't use these damn things..the other two where from Vermont, they thought it was a law..ah..no..

Get over the safety bar thing. If someone wants to use it and its not a law...tooo bad! Then ride the damn chair yourself and feel free to fall off anytime!

If you are prone to seizures, I don't think you should be on a ski lift, as even if the lift has a safety bar, you could still fall out of it fairly easily if you've completely lost control of your limbs.

The problem is that not everyone that suffers a seizure has a history of seizures and/or can always sense when one might be coming on

Much better to "plan for the worst" and get a better than expected outcome IMHO

Uh..yeah..we don't use the bar.. and thats our choice..if someone wants to use it..then they do..but if you saw what kind of bar they put on these chairs..you wouldn't want them down as well..they where put in to protect children which is fine with me...adults can barely fit in them...they are not like the bars we have here in the east...just imagine a downward facing handle on both sides of your legs..with zero room for any type of movement...

Well, let's see. A little discomfort on the lift or fall and get hurt or worse, die. Easy choice.

that's all fine and good but I think Dave's point was this is a strange choice of threads to be voicing your displeasure over Alta's safety bars.

Huh?

What about people driving around with no prior history of seizure? Not only can they die from the crash, they can kill other people too!

We can't live our life as though we'll have a seizure at any moment without any prior knowledge about it. Nor do we need to do so while skiing. What if it happens when actually skiing? Might hit a tree and die...

Happened to on of our neighbor's kids. No history...then one day when driving had one. Drove right off the road and wrecked the car. Luckily, she had someone in the car with her who was somewhat able to grab the wheel. No telling what would have happened had she been alone. I'm not sure how old she was...in her teens. No prior issues up to that point.

My sister in law suffered a seizure while she was pregnant two years ago. Her license was suspended for 6 months after that. I'm assuming the doctor or hospital is required to report that to the DMV.
