Where do you stay when you ski/ride?

We have a place a half hour from our "home mountain" that we share with the wife's brother and sister, thankfully we are there solo the majority of the time in the winter, summers are another story.

Found a great studio apartment in an old farmhouse on Craigslist 4 years ago that I rent seasonally with a buddy. No shoveling, no maintenance, great landlords. 15 miles south of the Loaf. Sweet deal, short coin. Can't be beat.

Catskills: Daytrip - My place in city or gf's in west Jersey
Poconos (rare): Daytrop - Gf's place in west Jersey
Vermont: Gf's family in St. Albans
Elsewhere: Motel/Hotel

Priceline helps a lot. Staying in a hilton for $80 instead of a hole in the wall for the same price.

I might be the rare bird, but I actully prefer doing the research and staying at a really nice Mom+Pop than at a Hilton. For instance, found a nice little place last weekend in Lake Placid with nice owners that I'll surely return to.

It is a combo of some of these. I live 10 mins for the local hill. Do 6 or 7 day trips a year. try to rental a house for a couple of days a year. One with family(sometimes for a week sometimes 3 or so days) and one 3 day weekend with the guys. Sometimes use a friends condo. Never stay in hotels/motels.

Own a place on the mountain at Sugarloaf. Right on the West Mountain trail. Made the decision years ago that skiing/snowboarding was a huge part of our lives. I live in Camden Maine and the Snow Bowl is 2 miles from my front door. The Snow Bowl is great during the week for many reasons. A family pass is $500 or $600 a year for a family of 6. Night skiing, which Sugarloaf does not offer. Ride with close friends a bunch without having Sugarloaf home invaded every weekend. I get 100+ days in a year even though I'm a lazy bastard.

Ski club with house 15 min from K. About an hr to get to the Mad River Valley & same thing getting to Bromley/Stratton area. Just got back to NYC about an hour ago. Skiing was awesome Mon. (Stratton) & Tues. (Sugarbush). Raining heavily up there this morning.

Some of the answer is open to individual interpretation.

I don't consider myself living in snow country. But there's still a small hill 20 minutes from my house which I naturally visit a couple times. I threw that into the "day trip" catagory instead. "Day trip" actually includes anything 1/2 hr to 2 1/2 hrs.

I don't quite get the point of seperating house/condo ON the mountain vs. NEAR mountain. If we look at the results with those 2 combined, there are as many who owns property ON/NEAR mountain as those who stay in motel/hotel.

Only if that Mom+Pop place is also $80!

I haven't found much in that range. Most B&B are over $100, which I can easily beat by staying at chain motel/hotel.
