return of the bmmc and killington triathalon

k announced their spring schedule and it included a return to the old school bmmc with the setting up of tents etc and bringing of alcohol allowed. also announced is the return of the k triathalon (ski, run & bike) on may 4. ok not memorial weekend but at least they're committing to being open through the 1st weekend in may. for those who haven't seen it, the pile on superstar is huge. kudos to mike & staff for bringing the beast back to life. full story from the insider blog:

The triathlon sounds awesome. I can't find much info from past events, but some threads I found on other forums make it seem like it was a ski/5k run/10k MTB?

That's correct, with the run and bike approximated, I think the run was always a little short. I did a number of them "back in the day". Was always a good time. For a few years it was very popular and would sell out. Memorial Day weekend was sometimes tough for the ski portion though. They would basically make the course as long as possible and then multiply your ski time by X (X based on length of course), this would make the ski leg more equal to the run/bike. Glad to hear it's back. Moving it to early May, even if they were open on Memorial Day, probably isn't such a bad idea.

Guess this puts to rest the theory that the past prohibition of alcohol that killed the BMMC was not due to insurance liabilities or a State Police mandate.

I would say it was an attempt to make more money by Kton for sure.

In every past discussion regarding the banning of alcohol/partying at the BMMC, the only defense of the policy was that Killington was either forced to by either the VT State PD or their Insurance company.

Whatever the case maybe, next to perhaps Sugarloaf's Reggaefest, the BMMC was the biggest ski area party of the year. Smart move by Mike/Killington in bringing it back.
